Compliant IEEe1394 host controller - trouble ?

I have a Canon XL1 DV camcorder. I have this host controller installed in my computer. When I try to take video from my camera to my computer (to make VCD or DVD's) I can get video but no audio.
Could this be because this particular hardware is bad? Or could it be the firewire cable?
Sound does work on the camcorder. Everything used to work fine. Now, no audio.
