My question is how can i get the Original HD files to put back on the original 80GB Hd that came with the system. I never did any upgrades, but my drive was only burning video, no audio to dvd's then it started not reading them as well. I want to format the drive to its original state before going any further on upgrades with the writer and HD. Thanks for your time.

Shawn

I forgot to mention. I removed the drive from the ILO and inserted into pc, and recoded files with Nero to make my dvd's i then deleted all files not even thinking about the primary system files that are required or used. I am an idiot, This little grey box has been sitting for a long time now, and just got the urge to get it fixed before its completely worthless.

It reads original DVD's but not any i have made with Nero. Im sure the firmware will fix it if i ever get it operating again. I may have to remove the drive to update, because its not recognizing the firmware discs i created with Nero.

I will assume that the HDD is still running under FAT 32. and there is nothing on it that that you can not live without, as all will be lost. Put the HDD back in the RHD04
Just in case take out any DVD disks that may be in the unit
With the remote, press the tools button, than select Erase, than the HDD, than Enter
This will erase and format the HDD drive with all necessary directories and files
If working before it should work now
I do not belive a change in firmware will be of any help

On the remote press setup. On the botton of the screen, the third set of 4 numbers will be the firmware being used

With the HDD back in and connected correctly, The unit should leave Hello in about 10 sec
The RHD04 will operate without the HDD but take about 1 1/2 min to start, [It will not operate at all without a DVD drive that it cannot
recognize]

I have no idea what is going on with the Nero burn's
I can copy a disk burned in my RRHD04 and copy with Nero or burn with Nero and copy or play in the D04

NOTE [Edit]
A good idea would be to make sure that the HDD was clear [had no info on it that the D04 might not like

I have tried erasing it and it said fail on it, i tried formatting as we ll as defragging. I will remove the HD again and install on pc to view the files on the hd. I was hoping i could format it with the pc, and just copy the files to it there and then reinstall. The unit never has liked cd-r's thus the problem with updating. i will repost sometime tomorrow evening with my results. THanks!

Go back to my orig post on Fat32
The D04 drive is formated with Fat 32
Is uour PC running win 98 IF not and its XP you may have screwed up the HDD format and the D04 can't see it

I am running win 98se and do not have such problems.
Check these sites [Normando has a vevy good guide for shch a situation]
While mainly for larger drives the process would be the same, he or others might be able to help.

I followed the guide that said format with H2format. and it stated drive was already formatted, but now i installed the HD back into the ILO and now it comes on with just orange - - - - across the read out, the fan doesnt come on. Nothing. I think I'm going to clean off my 250GB and see how that works by following that guide. It may be some time later before i get it cleaned off, lots of iso's on there. but ill come back here and post, i believe that HD might have went bad and is whats been causing the problems with the failed erase. Can you post a guide to replace the Burner as well? I wasnt sure if it was simple as plug in and go, or if there had to be a certain type of burner, I use lite-on in my pc after 3 bad drives from Plextor, sometimes you dont get what you pay for! THanks for your help again. Be back soon.

Lets back up

I thought by the posts the problem was with the HDD that may have been Formated improperly. IT would seem to still have files on it after you went through a format process

The RHD04 will operate as a DVD unit without having a HDD installed.
With everything installed correctly [inluding HDD] it should leave the Hello display in about 10 sec. Without the HDD it will take about 60 to 120 sec But the unit should operate

The Unit Will Not operate without a DVD drive or one it can recognize.

With the HDD removed The unit should operate as above If Not there is another problem present
Check all the connections A Previous post seemed to indicate that the unit did operate to a point and now it does not

I believe the HD is damaged. I plugged unit with HD unhooked(both power and IDE) and the unit stated Hello for like 8 seconds before displaying the time. HD's are not real expensive, ILO is not under warranty, and i cant return it or sale it for even a fraction of its original cost, so i will try to get a new HD, maybe even a larger one installed soon. The HD that was in it could have got some static damage or something from taking it in and out of each system.

It sounds as though the unit is workimg ok but has a bum HDD.
However you say it took only 8 sec without the HDD to leave Hello.
That is not my experence with the RHD04
I have two and a LiteOn 5045 which is much the same, That along wth some 10 others with friends. They all take much longer to leave Hello withoiut the HDD installed than you indicate

It would seem that there is somthing else happing with your unit
A HDD larger than 80gb has to be taken taken to a PC to format,[Fat 32] and have the proper files installed.
A Larger than 80gb drive, if the erase in TOOLS is used the drive will be formated to 80gb and have the files installed

Check those sites I gave
NO don't get rid of the RHD04 it is worth some effort and expence
