ok.... I've been experimenting whether both of these programs can exist on the same computer. I needed Roxio because I wanted to use a packet writing program so I can backup my Quicken files...... my computer wouldn't format the CD-RW disk so I couldn't backup my computer. Sooooo I installed Roxio.... don't need the other programs but I used the Drag and Drop program so now I can backup my files to CD with a CD-RW disk. success. oh boy... now I thought I screwed up my DVD writing with Nero. Well...... so far so good...... I never had an unsuccessful burn from Nero and the record is still clean! Both are coexisting nicely. does anyone else have this or is this unusual..... I have been telling Newbies that you shouldn't have both programs on the computer because of the packet writing interference because that's what I was taught here. But now I have experience with both and after about 10 successful burns with both programs existing at the same time.... I'm ready to rethink my advise. Here's a log:

Back in the old days, a few years ago, I had both Nero and Roxio on my system. I didn't have any problems but I never had Nero InCD installed and like you I used Drag and Drop. However, other people have had conflicts in the past that were resolved by ditching the Roxio software, particularly the Roxio driver. Why their systems were affected and others were not is one of life's mysteries, I would guess. I've started to tell people to be aware they have the Roxio driver installed and that if all else fails, get rid of Roxio and the Roxio driver. Otherwise, meh.

so there are others that have both programs and don't have problems! OK... I'll rethink my advise about having both! and did you see my log? it had

and still it was a perfect burn!

Those seem to appear in all logs to the best of my knowledge. My logs always have them as do most of the other logs I've seen. The one exception is when the output device is the Image Recorder or a DVD folder. I believe they relate to a comm check on the burner's IDE channel, but I'm not positive.

Hey IHoe
Yes they can co exist as you found out - the diff may be not having both Nero's and Roxio's packet writing software at once. (which you don't)

If you do a google - Roxio's packet writing driver shows up as causing conflicts w/ other programs too (like the software company site - FAQ section) Whether they're just blaming it on Roxio or not - it does seem to pop up alot and uninstalling Roxio can resolve.

Since ever setup is different and no software can be problem/bug free for all users and their setup's I'd still stick w/ recommending uninstalling it.
I like laddyboy's approach - if all else fails then uninstall it.
Existing drivers:

Anything under this in a Nero log means possible driver's that might conflict w/ Nero.

Just curious why didn't you use Nero's InCD instead?

Hey Binkie........ I didn't want to reinstall my Nero! It's working just fine! I love it. So I used to have Roxio wayyyyyyyy back with CD creator 4 (I think), so I decided to get the new Roxio Easy Meida Creator 9 and check it out. I also found out that the programs try to put itself in the start up group when you start windows or your computer! I stopped that. Cleaned out my start up group and now have just what the computer needs to start up with Windows. And so far, no problems with Nero and Roxio or any of my other programs!~ No conflicts. Soooooo I'm a happy camper. Life goes on and I'll adjust my advise to the Newbies when I see the driver: CDRALW2K.SYS in the Nero logs!~

Thank You Ireland....... but as I stated before ..... the only reason why I even installed Roxio is to use the DRAG AND DROP packet writing program so I can format my CD-RW which will allow me to backup my Quicken files to disk! I didn't want to install INCD because I know it WILL interfere with Nero.... sooooooo I tried Roxio and to my surprise, after I set my Start Up group NOT to install any Roxio files ...... Nero and my other burning programs are just fine. After burning 10 DVDs on all my burning programs and each disk came out perfect (scans in the high 90s). soooooo I'm happy I can use the DRAG AND DROP from Roxio and use my DVD programs as well! happy happy happy! it's a win win! I should just for the heck of it try AnyDVD with Roxio! Never did that.... something to do! LOL
