I've got a question about upconverting DVDs with the Xbox 360.

I know with the VGA cable it will upscale DVD's upto 1080p. However, my HDTV doesn't have a VGA input (or a HDMI input for that matter). It only has component inputs.

My questions is this: Using this VGA to Component adapter, would the Xbox 360 still upconvert DVD's, or would the adapter actually nullify this process?

The site says, "Note: The Device to which the "VGA" connector is connected, needs to support Component video(which is actually "sync on Y", Y-Pr-Pb)or "sync-on-green" for this type of cable to work. Check your Plasma, Projector or HDTV manual, otherwise your picture won't sync!"

My HDTV has Y-Pr-Pb inputs. So, would this work for me?

Thanks 3mrhythm. Nobody was responding to my thread so I didn't have a clue. I didn't know component cables were limited to 480p resolution. Obviously, that answers my question. Thanks a ton!!!

Hi, not sue about upscaling vids (and I only have an old xbox, not 360) but I use component cables and fifa 07 runs at 720p.
The frame rate suffers a bit so I disabled 720p and everything now runs at a smooth 480p.

So I cn confirm that component cables support higher than 480p.
(720p at least in my experience)

Does anybody know if I use an xbx HD AV pack with component cables, if i can then use a adapter cable like the one above to connect to a HDTV with VGA input only? (male / female plug issues asside,,i can sort that out)

Xbox 1.6 Executor3 EvoX 120gb
Custom white case, controler port and power button blue LED mods.
AMD Athlon XP 2.2gig, 120gb 7200rpm HD
512mb PC2700 ram, Delta Audiophile soundcard.
27" HD LCD, 450w dolby digital system.

RGB and Component Video (Y-Pb-Pr or Y-Cb-Cr) are different color spaces. For that reason I don't think it will work unless the tv can be set up to for component video over VGA (like allot of Magnavox and Philips HDTVs).

Component Video can handle everything from 480i-p/60 to 1080i-p/60.
