I encoded two small sample videos in VirtualDub in XviD format (to play with PSPlayerMT, but it's not like that program has anything to do with the problem) and copied 'em over to the Stick like normal and everything went smooth they even played fine.
However, when I hooked the PSP back to the PC and was about to delete those files cause they were no longer needed, I click delete, they disappear visually as if they've been deleted, but if I close the PSP window and go back in, they are still there. And the space remains the same.
So in other words, they are impossible to delete.
I managed to rename one of them cause I thought perhaps there's a slight chance it would help for some reason, but after that, that file now gives me a generic "Access Denied" error when trying to delete it, and I cannot rename it again (wtf??).
So what the hell is this? Does .avi files get stuck on a Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo and are impossible to remove?
(if you're going to answer please don't whine about something like "why did u put an .avi on the MS, PSP can't play that, blaueeh!" because as I mentioned above, PSPlayerMT plays them fine.)
Yes, obviously a complete reformat of the entire stick would "solve" the problem, at least temporarily (if the problem re-occurs after reformat then it would be pointless).
But I'd rather find an alternative solution and an explaination as to why they can't be deleted, because it makes zero sense.
Is there some sort of homebrewed file-browser for use on the PSP I can use that would allow me to look around everywhere and also delete files via it?
With a browser I mean something like PSPlayerMT has, but with that app you can only look around not really do anything except starting vids from it.
Cause I figured it might be a problem with my Windows XP (unlikely as I'm just looking around in the Memory Stick with with XP.. but then again, I wouldn't be surprised, it's Microsoft and Windows after all..) rather than the PSP/memstick itself, and if it is, then I should (if there is an app for it) be able to delete the files directly from and via the PSP itself without problem.
Sigh, whatever. I'll try to figure it out later or after I've slept awhile. Tired right now.
BAMC means Buy another memory card if problem persist,it should'nt bug you though 10-30mb loss of your memstick is nothign compaired to a shiny bricked PSP.No reason at all
Nevermind, I managed to delete them (I think).
I made a "New folder" on the stick and quickly after connecting USB again I dropped the .avi into that folder then clicked delete on the whole folder thing, then it disappeared and I got the space back.
Very strange, but I think that solved it.
I know 10~30 mb loss isn't a problem (they were actually only about 2mb each), but I'm currently encoding a several hundred mb large movie in full res 480x272 in XviD format, so I just wanted to make sure I could delete the stuff before I put that damn big thing on it.
Well whatever, it's a 1GB card, I've thinking about getting a 4GB soon (waiting for the price to fall even further).
