Disable the DMA and see what that does.

Try swapping the IDE channel it is on. This can sometimes help also. Since the disk light is blinking orange, i think it may be a more serious problem. I could be wrong. consult your trouble shooting guide if you got a user gudie with it. If not, go to the website of your DVD Writer and ask them.

If it is STEADY orange/yellow, this means there is a recordable disc inserted - cd OR dvd....

If it is flashing orange/yellow then the drive is indicating that it is an unsupported disc.....

If you have a know good commercial dvd-r OR a known GOOD -rw (blank), then try them, if it still flashes - then I would suspect the laser......

Does it read/load/burn cd's still - if it does then this would also be an indication of power problems with the laser......

Also check ALL power connections on the back and also if ANY pins have been pushed in on the ide connector at the back of the drive.....

If none of the above are apparent, then I would assume the dvd portion of the laser is stuffed....sorry...

A last effort - try upgrading the firmware, do not think this will make any difference, however if it is sick, it will not matter.....

You can obtain the upgrade here for upgrade to v2.00...

As I said, I do not think upgrading the firmware will fix it but - it is a last resort option I think.....

Sorry to hear that.....

I have an A03, which is still going strong....
(which rocks for me)
I personally like the pioneer products...

The AO5 is a good bargain at the moment (if you can still get your hands on one) or you can go for the new AO6 which does the same as the AO5 including 4x speed burn AND dual formats -r/+r.

As a say, my opinion is you can't go wrong with pioneer, however you will receive various opinions here - just my 2 cents......

I agree with BaaBaa. You can get the DVR106 by Pioneer so cheap now, only £28 more than the DVR105. Go fo one of them.
