Sorry if this question has been answered many times before.

If I buy a new PSP, can I always downgrade it to v.1.5?

Is it just in v1.5 i can play backup games, isn't it possible at all with any other versions?

lol, think your in the wrong forum mate, PSP forum is here:

But to answer your question, probably not, you need a 2.71 PSP or lower to be able to downgrade, and to get to v1.5 you can't have a TA-082 or TA-086 motherbaord, which I believe most new PSP's have now.

You can always get one off of eBay, is where I have bought all of my PSP's

I think it is possible to play backup games in v1.5 and in v2.71 by using a Dark_AleX's HEN D + DevHook
