Try cleaning your laser...

1) Get a cotton bud thing and dip one end in some rubbing alcohol.
2) Now, rub the laser for 10 seconds in little circles for 10 seconds.
3) Take the dry end and rub the laser, again, in little circles for 10 secs. Make sure no residue is left on the laser.
4) Try to read a disk.

If that fails, I would say it is your laser that has died. NEC drives, IMO, aren't the best drives for reading disks, and the lasers go pretty sharpish. Also, your drive is gettin on a bit being a 1100A!

May be time for a new drive is cleaning your laser doesn't work. (Even if it does work, may only be a temporary solution).

Hope that helps :-)
