How much RAM is really necessary to get a perfect burn to a DVD ? ( or is it irrelevant after 256mb are installed in computer ) or would 512mb ensure a more error free environment ?

256MB i sufficient, though the more the better is always the case with RAM. Is this DDR or SD or something else? If its DDR then you have no worries. If its SDRAM, then i dont recommend you using the internet or in fact other programs when burning. I like to have lots of RAM. I have 768MB DDRAM which is twice as fast as SDRAM. It makes everything run a lot smoother and is more forgiving when you do a lot of double clicking really quickly.

yep Oriphus.....

The sdram is normally rated at p100 or p133, whereas the ddr is rated ALOT higher - basically the data transfer rate is ALOT faster with ddr ram....

I have 384Mb of sdram - however I cannot do anything else when burning - as my specs/cpu are maxed out, so the ram is needed to handle the overflow - ddr is better for this and allows multitasking as Oriphus says....

But I do not have any issues with using 384Mb sdram as I do not multitask when burning so it doesn't cause any problems.....

But yes, when I upgrade, it will be for a bigger cpu/motherboard and ddr ram....

I did a little test with DVD2One, rather than actual burning.

A disc that took 18 minutes with 512 MB ram took 32 minutes with 256 MB. Both instances were in the same computer (P4 1.6) and used DDR ram.

I won't even discuss what happened when I tried it in my P233 laptop with 128 MB.

All the bruning info you need to start is here: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/userguides/141024.php#dvd9dvd2one

Yeah, its at the compression stage it really needs it. Im going to upgrade my RAM to 1536MB if i can, if not 1GB will do me. When i say if i can, i know the computer will take it, just wondering about my wallet since iv just spent £1000 on a projector :-(
