ronnies- I think CMC ( BAH HUMBUG !!!!!) OEM'S for HP'S media offerings ! Not a good Idea - Verbatim , Taiyo Yudens , Sony( MIJ ) These will be taiyo yudens too ( Octagonal White spacer on top of spIndle ) would be a better choice !

From my experiences, HP DVD+R 8x works perfectly (I used a 25 pack and all was burned successfully), BUT HP DVD+R 16x did not work for me at all (tried burning 5 discs of a 50 pack and none of them worked)

NonConGuy,
Sure they burn ok but more than likely they will be unplayable or have playback problems in 6 months to a year. The reason you are having problems burning the 16x HP's is probably due to a firmware issue with your drive. Is your f/w current? Has the manufacturer of your drive released any new f/w rescently?
Some drive manufactures don't release new f/w updates often enough to keep up with new/faster rated media (memorex drives are a good example). Usually they are a rebadge of another popular drive manufacturer and can be crossflashed to that drive and use their f/w which is usually updated more often. Their intentions are for you to have to buy a new drive with f/w that supports the new/faster rated media.
Memorex drives are again a good example. Some of them are oem lite-ons and although they have problems with 16x media they can be crossflashed with patched lite-on f/w and then burn the 16x media just fine.

i have no use for hp's media or drives..... that's based on my personal experience. i'd stick with ty or verbatim media. i find hp writers to have more glitches than most. nec writers, while good, are finicky about media used. not a fan of phillips writers either.

HP media? Over priced low quality media. They'll go on sale for $15 a 50 pk,meanwhile you can get a 50 pk of verbatim for that same price, and even cheaper when they go on sale.

I'll agree with you on that one, LOL
My HP640c has some very poor backups-crc errors, but it's a decent reader and the lightscribe function works pretty good.
