I am having some problems opening a DVD on both our PCs at home.

Even if I have AnyDVD installed, version 6.0.8.2, I can't open the disk. I had read that AnyDVD would cure the problem, which I already had (and solved) with another disc.

I had also read that the problem was related tonewest protection systems, that identified DVD burners and refused to open the files. But on one of the PCs only has a DVD player, not a burner. So I can't see why it won't open.

Any ideas or suggestions on how to deal with that?

Does it play on a DVD player? What title is it? It might be a bad disc. In any case, it may need to be returned as it is defective merchandise.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

Dunker,

I'm having the same problem as Calmart. I have a DVD that is not recognise on my PC's DVD player but will play in my stand alone DVD player. I also have AnyDVD version 6.0.9.0. I also figured it to be some type protection as well. Do you know of anyway around this problem. Thanks.

The disc played fine on the DVD player. And did not run on the PC DVD players.

That is correct. Dvd player works fine but the PC DVD player, no dice.

What I meant is to confirm that that is what had happened to me, which Dunker asked about.

Update: The DVD will play in my PC's DVD burner but not my PC's DVD player. How can I get my PC to copy and burn from the same drive?

That's easy. The copy program will play and prepare the files, and ask you for a new DVD when it's ready. You just replace the original disc and put a new one.

Of course you know you can't use any copy program to burn DVDs, right? I mean it's not like copying from disc to disc.

You have to use specific programs. I use CloneDVD2.

Yes I am aware of that. I use Nero along with AnyDVD, it seems to do the trick.

Thanks again

How do you use Nero to do that?

AFAIK you can't just copy the files as when you put files on a disk or copy disk to disk.

Might I suggest, using two seperate programs to do two seperate jobs? Eg: Use AnyDVD to rip to HD, then use CloneDVD, Nero or some other program to burn to disc? Simple...

The advantage with specific programs like Clone DVD2 is that it separates what you really need and what you don't, and clones just that.

You don't have to do this all in one step. Rip to your HD, then burn to disc at your convenience. AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 allow you to do that.
