I recently purchased a service called "Findnot", which assured me of anonymous downloading, using their VPNs.

While it IS anonymous, my download speeds are literally 90% slower than they were before.

Has anyone found a better way?

Thank you.

Just download and run PeerGuardian 2. You can get it here...

Make sure it is up to date.

It basically blocks IP adress from seeing what you are doing... I think... But it works :)

purchasing *any* program to assist in file sharing is pointless. you're just getting ripped off, as there's always a free version out there that's better.

Three problems with Findnot and anything like it. First, since you are piping everything going to and from your computer through theirs, they are in a perfect position to log everything you do and cull your data streams for info. And, if they have any brains at all, they WILL log what their customers do. After all, the digital trail would end with them and I'm quite certain they don't want to be left holding the bag should one of their customers do something stupid - or criminal.

Second, such services DO NOT protect you against spyware, and if they claim to, they are lying. While they can provide you with anti-spyware software (although a lot of AS software is spyware itself), and while they can filter out known spyware homesites, they cannot stop keyloggers and such as they claim.

Third, they are lying about DNS spoofing. Nobody is immune from DNS attacks. The interesting thing about DNS attacks is, if implemented properly, they are undetectable and basically unpreventable.

I suggest you put a stop payment on this.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.
