howdy all,

pls know i have been reading lots, google is my friend. have searched the forums and finally registered. the first thing is this...afterdawn is the most comprehensive, respectful, and organized community i've ever seen.

now for the question:

i have a movie on my computer in .avi format. i open up my trusty Nero, import the files, la la la and in 2.5 hours i have a video. if i immediately pop in another disc and burn again i have a video in about 20minutes...this is fantastic. so im thinking, this is great...i can save the project file and next time i can just burn that bad boy in 20 min. NOPE. So i try to burn it to hard drive folder...get the video ts folder ready to roll in about 3 hours. DAMN! But if i can make subsequent copies in 20 min, it's all good. Nope... 1.5 hours.

I haven't yet tried burning to Nero image drive, but from what i've read it's going to be the same deal.

so how to skip the whole transcoding business if it's already been done??? I hate all that 'downtime' on my pc.

just a thought: i can burn an .iso in about 1/2 hour in Nero express. can i burn .avi files to .iso? other options???

TIA
and fresh baked peanut butter cookies for all.

Candyk,

If you transcode the movie onto your hard drive, you do not have to transcode again. You should just burn the dvd from the movie you just trascoded to your hard drive. Just click on dvd - make video dvd - and then locate the files you just transcoded. Done.

as i thought! i will try it again, as i am fully aware of the fact that it is, in all liklihood, user error. As usual. :)

just to confirm, i transcode using the 'write to hard drive' option as opposed to the 'burn to image drive' option?

ty, and enjoy the cookies
