I'm not sure what you mean by hd reciever? Like direct tv reciever? Or surround sound reciever? But if you want a top potential quailty picture of you ps3 i would get a 1080p HDTV even though not all games are 1080p but will prevent a later upgrade. If you have a HDTV which ofcourse you do do worry to much about 1080p res just make sure you have a hdmi input to also get the best out of the picture or component is ok also. As for audio reciever really doesn't matter any 5.1 channel will do. Now if you meant a hd tv tuner as for more recent HDTV have a hd tuner built in, then the then answer is no you'll be ok. How that helps.

ok cool, i meant a HDTV tuner, but my tv does have a hdmi input so when i get a ps3 i just need to get a hdmi cable and im good? if so that would be sweet, i cant wait to play games in 1080, or watch Blu-ray in 1080 :)

Monster does make hdmi to dvi, but another thing and I don't know if it will matter would be the hdcp (high bandwith digital copy protection)on HDTV that isn't full 1080p. Is your 1080p or 1080i? But again I don't think it'll matter. Oh yeah also check ebay they have good deals for hdmi to dvi.

I have a PS3 and an HDTV. I just ran the HDMI cable from the PS3 to the TV. works like a charm. the cable I bought at walmart was about 30 bucks and just a regular HDMI cable. no converters or anything were necessary.
