I am looking to buy printable DVD-R/DVD+R's in Japan and was hoping to get some feedback on which would offer best quality and longevity.

For DVD-R (single layer) discs, I've already bought THAT'S printables in spindle, manufactured by Taiyo Yuden. Did I make a good buy?

For DVD+R DL discs, I'm still not sure but I heard Mitsubishi has decent printable DVD+R DL. Any other brand you can recommend?

Thanks in advance for the input!

Inkjet printable or Thermal printable Ty?

I'm interpreting this post as you're asking about Inkjet printable media quality. Let me know if I'm wrong.

Full hub/Reg hub/White matte/White glossy/Silver Shiny? Lot's of different types of printable media to choose from.

Wise choice my friend. You've got some quality stuff with those dash r's.You shouldn't be disappointed. There are fake tys floating around, not sure if they are mixed in with the ty inkjet printable media.

Verbatim makes some top notch stuff as well-made by Mitsubishi Chemical Corp and say made in Taiwan. They feature the same Advanced Metal AZO dye that is used in Taiyo Yuden media. This goes for reg media, inkjet printable, and thermal printables.

Another fine choice would be the Hitachi Maxells. Those spindles will say Made in Japan and are very sweet.Avoid the printable maxells that say made in taiwan.

Printable DL media?

Verbatim makes the finest DL media out there,no contest. I wouldn't trust any other DL brand name. These are made in Singapore.

Best Quality: Backup wise,verbatim/Ty/and Hitachi maxells should give you the best quality backup and longevity. Now when it comes to printing on those inkjet printable discs, the quality of the appearance of your cover will be affected by the different types of printable media that's out there:
Reg Hub,Full hub,Silver Shiny,Matte white and Glossy white.

Yes, I was indeed refering to inkjet printable, sorry for the confusion.
You've given me some interesting points which I will certainly take into consideration.
The THAT'S are Taiyo Yudens made in Japan. The Mitsubishi's I saw are, as far as I can recall, also made in Japan.
So basically I think both are a safe bet then.
Thanks for the advice!

You're good to go with the R media-either format. If the brand name of the +R DL media is Mitsubishi,I'm not sure of the MID code, but should be some excellent quality media. You guys in Japan should have an easier access to the high quality japanese media. Verbatim is Top dog with the +R Dl media. Ritek makes up most of the rest with people having more issues with the Ritek DL media.

Inkjet printable: The full hubs look a lot better than the Reg hubs-more area to print on. The Glossy white's should yield a high quality-lusterous picture. When my supply runs out,I will be getting some white glossy's. The Matte's look pretty good for darker covers, but not as fortunant with the lighter covers.

For an even more distinctive/3-D look, the Shiny inkjet printables look awesome. Majority are reg hubs and the Full hubs are starting to migrate around. Those full hub shiny's should look awesome, especially the lighter colored covers.

I haven't purchased any printable DL media, but if I do in the future,it'll be verbatim.

:)

you can't go wrong w/ "THAT's" brand by Taiyo Yuden, i believe i was the one who mentioned it to you a few months back regarding the brand names over in Japan :)

as to the Mitsubishi dual-layers, i can confirm for you right now that they are MCC/MKM (Mitsubishi) made with the MKM001 media ID coding, same as all my Verbatim branded dual layers with the same code :P

happy burning on BOTH those good choices of media, there is a good chance i'll be heading to Tokyo next year, i'm curious to see what's available over there in Japan, hopefully there will be no problems with me bringing back a few spindles and customs won't give me a hard time~ :) LOL

Oh yes, you recommended the THAT's to me, I remember now. I've been using them ever since and never had a coaster so far, great quality indeed. From now on I'm switching to white printables as I've bought a new printer that can handle printing nice DVD labels.

I'll try out the Mitsubishi's next week or the week after that. Thank you for confirming the ID code. I think they are the Japanese variant of the Verbatim DL's everyone is talking about.

When taking them with you from Tokyo, I would suggest you leaving them wrapped and in your handluggage. I always bring them like that with me when I visit back in Europe and never had problems. Customs always ask me whether something is burned onto them so if they're still wrapped, it's easier to convince them that nothings on it. Happy shopping in Tokyo!

Yes Kyo28 ! the other esteemed members have already answered you and can only agree with them you have done well ! I only wish they would sell That's Over here then we all would'nt have to root through stacks of sony disc for the elusive Mij Ones ( taiyo Made ) Maybe they don't want to compete with their own media online or maybe they've made a agreement with sony not to sell Thats branded media stateside ? Who Knows ? anyhow like Saugmon said the Maxell printables are Great media if Made in Japan & it seems that you are more likely tio find the Maxell MIJ media in the printables over the branded ones !In my experience anyway ! The Taiwan made Maxell printables are CMC atleast The one pack I bought by mistake was ( 8X DVD-R ) so avoid those ! Seems like you off to a great start so Good luck , Happy Holidays & Burn Kyo , Burn !!!!!!!!!!!
