Boy O Boy your sure puttin in a lot of work for me, just to save a buck or 2. You just don't know how much I really appreciate that
OK you talked me into it, I'll go with this over the Gigabyte. Hope your happy, Damn you must be a salesman HAHA !
ASUS P5Q Premium LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
But remember something its only money, and I realize that its important in order to get by, believe my I've been there. I worked hard for what I have today, I had to struggle bringing up 3 kids. I did without ! So anyway I've got lots of it now. So let me waste a little
Let me give U an example..I've got a 60" Sony ($2,000.00) that I love to watch at night, but where it sits during the day the glare is to much,
So I bought a 32" LG $700.00) to set up in a different location to watch during the day. 2 mons after I bought it, decided it was to
small, so I bought a Olevia 47" (1,300.00) now I'm happy
I'm using the 32" as my computer monitor. Now I'm not trying to say that money doesn't mean anything to me,I was young once and worked hard for what I've got. But at my age, and you'll soon find out, Comforts are even more important. Anyway PISS ON MY KIDS ! When I die they'll have a lot of nice Shit instead of money
YOU CAN BREATHE EASY NOW Friend !
Again what about the MEMORY My Memory My Memory

shaffaaf,
Quote: well it seems such a waste that your nto goign to OC, if not why nto get a p45 ASUS P5Q?
and you have an AGP gfx card there, when the board only takes PCI-E
and with the P5Q, its a good clocker (even the normal one, ASUS have hit hard with these P45s and they have the linux OS for net in 5 seconds, instead of booting into windows)
This is exactly what I was getting at the other day! The man has made up his mind, pretty much as to what he wants, his choice is a good solid one and it's what he wants. You act like he's making a big mistake in not getting the P5Q, when he's not. I could see it if he was making a terrible choice with a real POS motherboard, but he's not! Spare me the bios differences details! The P5Q has a better bios, geared more towards the Enthusiast than the general user. He chose a more General approach based on his needs. The DQ6 fits his needs better so why do you keep harping on the P5Q? Again, spare me the bios details and advantages, he doesn't need them or want them!
We go on page after page of the same damn thing, evey time someone wants to do a build and starts asking questions! Mention a CPU Cooler and you would think the TRUE is the only cooler in the world worth anything! I advised Rick to try a Freezer 7 Pro, instead of using the stock Intel cooler. He's not overclocking so it should be more than able to handle the heat! The chip puts out 95w and the F7P handles 130w, so it should work just fine, for about a third of the money!
It's getting like that with everything! Mention you want to get a new Video Card, HDD, ODD, memory, or anything and we get charts, graphs screen shots with everyone trying to prove their choice is the best! It's like watching a Comedy/Chess Game sometimes.
I didn't leave because of a difficult situation with Rob! We both handled that like the Gentelman we are, and easily resolved things. I was far more worried that I had wronged a good friend unintentionally, than I was about the BS here! I left because of all this continuing bickering over motherboards, bios's, HDD, etc, Maybe a monthly updated Recommended hardware list would be a good idea. Someone new could go and look at it first before they start asking questions. It could be broken down to price ranges with all the choices offered being good ones, or perhaps with an ABC rating system. Maybe it would cut a lot of this bickering out!
Shaff, you said: "well it seems such a waste that your nto goign to OC, if not why nto get a p45 ASUS P5Q"? He's already answered that question as to why not, a page or two ago! What makes it such a waste? The MB he's choosing gives him what he wants, gives him decent Future Proofing and is going to be reasonably easy for him to do just about anything he wants to with it. It's also a top notch High End motherboard, so he's not making a mistake in buying it, if that's what he wants, has the money for it and doesn't mind spending that kind of money, I applaud his decision! I would have applauded it if he had gotten any other high end MB, regardless of what brand! We as a Forum, need to start concentrating more on what someone wants, based on his needs and put all that other crap to rest!
Respectfully,
Russ

Does this post remind you of a discussion of quality that occurred a few days ago? Fortunately it remained solid on the merits and didn't get personal:D
Quote: We go on page after page of the same damn thing, evey time someone wants to do a build and starts asking questions! Mention a CPU Cooler and you would think the TRUE is the only cooler in the world worth anything!
I seem to recall someone who was as equally adamant about the quality of commercial computers.
Quote: It's getting like that with everything! Mention you want to get a new Video Card, HDD, ODD, memory, or anything and we get charts, graphs screen shots with everyone trying to prove their choice is the best! It's like watching a Comedy/Chess Game sometimes.
True, but then doesn't it all depend on who's playing?
Quote: I didn't leave because of a difficult situation with Rob!
Actually you never left but there's a difference in these two situations You unintentionally took it to a personal level regarding a subject that was not part of an ongoing discussion, no one requested the information. This is different, Rick asked for advice regarding pieces of equipment and the members here gave it to him passionately. If I asked for technical advice I could only hope for as much passion, and with such good taste.
I see no analogy here.

greensman..No I went with the OCZ. Nobody got back to me in time, so I just took a shot in the dark. The only difference I could see was 5-5-5-12 & 5-5-5-18, and I got no clue what that means other then the 5 is better then 6. LOWER Is better. It will work well I'm sure anyway their were more negatives in the revues 4 the Dominator then the OCZ at Newegg..But in general they both looked good. So just LIKE A WOMAN I took the one that I thought looked the best. I know, I know ya'll just laughfin at me now

Russ (theone) has his moments but he always seems to come back renewed and refreshed. Sometimes we all get caught up in shadows of emotional moments, and then everything we do from there seems to fall in its shade. HLG

Sophocles,
Quote: I seem to recall someone who was as equally adamant about the quality of commercial computers.
I made it Crystal Clear that I was talking about so called "WalMart Specials"! Those on sale for $199 to $299. The quality on HP and Compaq's more expensive offerings is much better! I also based what I said on the 30 or so that I have worked on this past 6-8 months!
Quote: I see no analogy here.
No, you're absolutely right, so I shouldn't have drawn one!
BTW? What would you think of a guide for new builders and Newbies?. Maybe laid out by price/performance. I think it could cut down on a lot of redundancy, as we always seem to have to go back to square one, every time someone posts that they want to do a new build. All I know is that they keep asking the same questions, over and over again, week after week! Do you know I spent a month reading posts in the threads and getting the lay of the land before I even joined or posted here! I remember well, that first post, as it was right in the middle of you and Brobear when you were trying to make him understand why the AMDs did more work in less clock cycles! That was a while ago! LOL!!
Seriously, I would like to hear your thoughts on some sort of a guide!
Best Regards,
Russ

I think it would be a good idea, but we already have a dream machine thread and a budget build thread stickied. Not to mention this thread and a gfx card thread. If we open a new one with a different focus I think one (or more) of the other stickies will have to go.

That makes sense if one can get them to read it first.

LOL. brobear and I did that for years and where ever we went it always stirred things up, but in a good way. We never mistook or shut down the passion for sharing ideas, and it was infectious.

One could be directed to beginners and the other to the more advanced builders, although I suppose everyone is advanced in their own minds. LOL

Good idea, and I sense that Locoeng wants to see this happen, because he knows that a little diversity is always good, even with ideas.

I was the same way, I was a little embarrassed at first, did a lot of reading but would not post. Really didn't want anybody to know how little I Knew. Then I remembered ignorance can't be taught a thing, But stupidity can learn. I've got a girl right now that tells me she follows my instructions to the letter (E-Mails}. But she can't find one E-Mail To return to me so I can and see if I did instruct her properly..Guess you all know what that tells me. My son-in-law is in his 40's,he don't read instructions either. Now me! I'm cocky, I'll glance over them, and try. But if it don't turn out right then I do a thorough read. Even then it don't always work out. You have to learn to read and really study what you read
AND Truthfully the older you get the harder it is to learn, let alone too remember,YA gotta pull them structions out every day, I think an infant, if memory serves me right.Learns more in there 1st year of their life, then they will learn in the rest of their life
