Is it?
Because I had a 4200 siemens and it died last fri it seemed as if the fuse or something had died it wasnt stable the lights just kept blinking and it died slowly
now ive been told that turning a modem of on the powerpoint is better for it then the switch on the back the(12V switch)???
or is it better altoghter to just leave it on even while the computer is off?

If one were to be technical any time you turn it on and off you're taking away from it's life, but the difference is negligible. I leave mine on and when I want to disconnect I just disable the network adapter. I think your modem just died...

Every night has its day.
Even forever must come to an end....
I think.

- for a few of my devices (not just PC devices, ie dvd players, 5.1 suround system, some of my came consoles) i've cut the power lead (if it's a standard kettle lead or standard lead that can easily be replaced) and added an inline power switch. The reason for this is to add a power switch where some gadgets don't have an on/off button at all (ie my LCD tv only goes to standby, not OFF completely so to save pulling the lead out all the time i've added an inline switch that basically allows the power to be on or off). This has also been useful for any devices that have a power switch on the back that can be worn out with frequent use; so this way i extend the life of the built-in power switches - for instance -
