Hello people.
First of all, I am new to this forum and a new owner of PSP, so please excuse my stupid questions.
I bought a game with my PSP and currently running the 2.71 software (I belive it is the software) The PSP asked me to update the software in order to run the game.
After updating my software, my friend told me that I could use Devhook to play games for free by just downloading.
He also recalled that I can only run Devhook hack if I run the old 1.0 or 1.5 software.
Is this true?
Can someone please be kind enough to give me the 411 on websites that have these informations of how-to and where to download these Devhooks.
Once again, sorry for the stupid question as I probably would think someone already asked this before.
Thank you in advance and I am looking forward to share informations with all of you.

Welcome to Afterdawn mate.
First we need to know if your PSP is a TA-082.

If it isnt like the above image your good for a downgrade
LOOK VERY CAREFULLY AND MAKE SURE ITS NOT LIKE THEE ABOVE

If you dont want to downgrade, you can always run ISOs using DevHook on firmware 2.71, check this guide:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/399310
However if your PSP is not a TA-082 then I recommend that you downgrade because its much easier to run homebrew (no need to emulate 1.5 in DevHook).

Hello all, thanks for the quick responses.
I really appreciate all of your help.
fireman50: Thanks for the reply. I was running 2.6 before and now running 2.71 after I upgraded.
Sudds: Thanks for the welcome. I appreciate the time you took uploading the picture you have shown me which made everything so much clear.
I believe I don't have the TA-082 as I cannot spot the "IC1003" anywhere.
What do you mean by downgrading? Again, I'm sorry for the stupid question as I am new to this scene.
eternalis: Thank you for the reply! I don't have the TI-082. Is this supposedly a good thing or a bad thing?
What do I get from downgrading? (If it really means literally; as in going down a level)
Thank you so much guys for replying so quickly.

By downgrading you can run all homebrew.
Heres a guide on downgrading:
1. Download the 2.71 flasher from here:
http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/827
2. Download HEND from here:
http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/922
3. Extract updateflasher.rar and then copy all of the files in the MS_ROOT folder to the root of your memory stick (i.e X:\ where X is the drive letter of your PSP). Press Yes if it asks you to replace
4. Extract HEND and again copy all the files in the MS_ROOT folder to the root of your memory stick (i.e X:\ where X is the drive letter of your PSP). Press Yes if it asks you to replace
5. Download the firmware 1.5 UPDATE EBOOT from here: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/4
6. Extract EBOOT_1.50.zip and rename the EBOOT.PBP to UPDATE.PBP. Then copy the UPDATE.PBP to X:\PSP\GAME\UPDATE| (create the UPDATE folder if its not there already). Note: X = the drive letter of your PSP
7. Now make sure you have your AC adapter plugged in and a fully charged battery. Then go to PHOTO-->HEND.
8. A blue screen should appear. Then your PSP will auto-reset. If it gets stuck just repeat this step until you get it to work.
9. Now go to GAME-->Memory Stick and select the UPDATE FLASHER program and you can downgrade!
Once you have downgraded, use my guide to get DevHook running:

Hope this helped,

Hey eternalis, would you please explain it more to me when you said "3. Extract updateflasher.rar and then copy all of the files in the MS_ROOT folder to the root of your memory stick (i.e X:\ where X is the drive letter of your PSP). Press Yes if it asks you to replace".
Are you saying I should move the whole MS_ROOT folder to the root of the card or just the updateflasher and hend files?
Are the updateflasher.rar and hend.rar supposed to be zipped folders? I received them as individual unknown files (not folders); so there is only one file for each.
Thank you again.

They are not zip folders. You must download WinRAR and use it to extract hend.rar and updateflasher.rar. No you dont move the folder MS_ROOT to the root of your memory stick. You move whats inside of the MS_ROOT folder to the root of your PSP.

I have nothing inside the MP_ROOT folder except for another empty folder that says "100MPV01". Do I extract the files right in the MP_ROOT or the 100MPV01?
When you say move, do I keep the files inside the MP_ROOT still or do I totally delete them and just keep the ones on the root?

No I do not mean MP_ROOT. Copy the folders in MS_ROOT (which is found when you extract the hend.rar and the update.flasher.rar) to the root of your memory stick (X:\), i.e where the MP_ROOT folder is but not inside it.
