$50 for THREE YEARS!?! Who on earth is offering a three year warranty with it!?!

BUY IT! I don't care if Nintendo does make the best hardware, thats a LONG warranty!

Don't buy it. A warranty is a pure profit tag that electronics distributors will pretty much put on anything, because everyone buys it. When in reality very very few people have malfunctioning products. By the time 3 years is up you could probably buy a Wii for 100 dollars. So if it does break, your only really saving 50 bucks, when in reality your almost certainly going to lose 50 dollars.

there is this paper that comes with the wii and if you register your wii you get an extra 90 year warranty. but that is good $50 for 3 years.

I believe you mean a 90 day extended warranty... 90 year warranty would be awesome lol..

Also tho, the problem is, they can claim it covers this and that at the time they sell you the warranty.... then when it comes down to something actually being needed to be covered under the warranty, and poof "oh yeah, it doesnt cover that." or "look theres a scratch on the system, clearly it was abused, and our warranty doesnt cover system abuse," etc

I agree with DraTs on many points here.

-A 90 year extended warranty would be flippin sweet.

-A store can tell you that their warranty covers everything, including martian attacks; but that doesn't mean they really will when it comes time to pony up. I've personally been burned by Best Buy in particular, as in $2500 burned. So whenever I start to hear the warranty spiel come out of their mouth, I stop them and kindly explain that if they say one further word towards that warranty one of my shoes will be in their mouth, while the other will be in a much less comfortable place, and that shortly after that, their head will follow the second shoe. (Harsh, maybe?) Whereas stores like Gamestop and EB(Now the same store, ironically) have always been good on their warranties. I trust them. Also, Fries is a TERRIBLE place to buy a warranty from.

The big thing is, Nintendo quite explicitly states -NOT- to return your Wii to the store for an exchange, under any circumstances, because it's nearly impossible to wipe ALL traces of personal information from it(according to them, anyway), without physically replacing all the writable chips in the system itself.

If you need an exchange, you're supposed to go through Nintendo themselves. That's why they offer the free 90 day extension with the system. Any problems that may crop up from poor craftsmanship is likely to be within the first 6 months, which would leave you covered for a free replacement.

And if you buy any VC games or anything, you won't be able to swap them over to a new Wii, unless you go through Nintendo themselves, so you'd be bent over a log and screwed without lube, that way. :P

Warranties every warranty is BS beacuyse what are the chances of anything dying in 1 year i mean companies know how to get out of it like graphics cards mine is an Ati X1900xtx
1 Year on fan/heatsink
5years on ram
6 years on Gpu
why beacuse the fan is most likely to fail out of the 3 after the 1st year so best thing ios to give you 1 years on that

Warranties are not, 'by default' bad. That assumption is poorly ascribed.

A warranty is as good and reliable as it's source. That is truth.

A warranty on a computer.... Is a bad idea almost ANYWHERE.

A warranty on a game system, may not be such a bad idea. Does it give the purchaser peace of mind? Does it possibly mean that you can get another system easier and/or cheaper? Then it's not such a bad deal, is it?

There's more to this than a few companies that do it poorly and don't honor their own policy.

I would never suggest a Best Buy warranty. Their warranties have been proven over and over again, to be completely valueless.

After looking into Nintendo some more, I discovered that they have a STANDARD, 12 month warranty. So, buying any sort of an extended warranty would probably be a poor idea. You tack on the extra 90 days and you have yourself a full 15 months worry-free for your system.
