First time using TMPGEnc and I have a question

Ok, I encoded my first .avi file to .mpg but there's no audio. What am I doing wrong? If there's a thread devoted to this that I haven't found, feel free to direct me to it. :) Thanks!

the best thing to do IMO is to take your AVI file, open VirtualDub, extract the audio (to .wav) then when using TMPGEnc load the video as the .AVI and the audio as the .wav, works everytime no problems, plus no sync problems either, i think extract to wav is just under the file menu in VirtualDub.

seperating the 2 streams can cause sync probs

you should just decompress the audio in virtualdub

1. Click Video - Direct Stream Copy.
2. Click Audio - Full Processing Mode.
3. Click Audio - Compression. Select <No compression (PCM)> and click ok!
4. Click File - Save AVI and try it with TMPGEnc.

I tried what you suggested ABMone and that made the file really big. 400MB. Any way to cut that in half without losing quality?

what are you trying to do with it? VCD? SVCD?

after you encode it its gonna get bigger anyway.

I've got sound now, so all I need to do now is find a way to make the file smaller. I first separated the two streams (video and audio) and it was only like 280MB. But, the sound quality wasn't very good. Then I did this:
1. Click Video - Direct Stream Copy.
2. Click Audio - Full Processing Mode.
3. Click Audio - Compression. Select <No compression (PCM)> and click ok!
4. Click File - Save AVI and try it with TMPGEnc.

And encoded it and it turned out to be 400MB. The file itself was only 180MB. So my question is, can I make the filesize smaller, without losing any quality? I'm trying to fit three 25min episodes onto a VCD.

You decompressed the audio, now it is PCM audio so nope I dont see much you can do unless you want to change audio to full processing mode and audio - compression and select a compression like mp3!
