I'm pretty new to the game but I have successfully used DVD decrypter. I'm now only burning from previously burned discs so don't have to worry about any compression.
I like usin DVD decrypter but does it automatically perform some sort of compression no matter what, or can i use it to do straight 1:1 burns?

Cheers chaps

Its a small world, but I wouldn't want to paint it...

DVDDecrypter does not do any compression, meaning that it is only a "one-stop" backup tool in the case of DVD5 (single layer) DVDs.
You can tell how many layers the disc has by selecting the program's "file" mode: it will list the total size of the files on the disc and will even specify the number of layers.
If the disc is dual layer, however, you will have to use a compressor such as DVD2One or DVDshrink. Full guides on DVDdecrypter and DVD2One are available at http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdripping. A guide for DVDShrink is available at: http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/dvd_shrink.htm .
Good luck....

Hee Hee - nice one Yuriv....

Yep, totllay concur here....

Dvd decryter can backup, bacup copies with ease...

As they are dvd5's - you can create an image in ISO read mode and then just burn it back with ISO write mode - this will give you a 1:1 of the original....

You can also just copy it on the fly if you have a seperate dvd rom and burner and Nero or recnowmax - as the info does not have any encrytion on it so therefore it is just data and can be copied with ease...

As Yuriv stated, DVD Decrypter contains no compression capabilities - just rip/stream/image and burn from image capabilities.....

...............PIO is no go, DMA all the way...............
Beware of the Pixies - they move in over night and turn your life upside down

Or, if you want to burn a dual-layer DVD without having to compress it, use DVDDecrypter to decrypt, then split it using DVDFab, then burn to 2 DVD-Rs. That way you get to keep all the menus, all the extras, bonus features, etc., and you have perfect video quality.

I prefer TMPGEnc DVD Author for splitting or merging, but either will work great
