for anyone here tired of paying a arm and a leg do you use roms you legally own well have i got your saving grace here
a hacker who got tired of paying for vc games decided to use a gamecube emulator to play roms on his wii
using a app called sdload
so far from what i have read you need this
1.imported sd memory card for gamecube the one that takes sd cards
2. a older action replay for gamecube the action replay max does not work
3.roms in the dol format
4.sdload and no im not telling you where to get this because i cannot
anyways if you go looking for it the application works like this
you place a bunch of new action replay codes in your action replay called sdload then you format the gamecube sd memory stcik in fat 16 because fat32 isn't supported download your favorit roms and the sdloader bin into th sd card reconnect the sd card to the memory card in the wii's gamecube memory card slot and use the action replay to load sdload from the sdload menu you can run any dol including gcos but gcos right now doesnt recognize the wii's drive so it will have to be patched before backups can be used
here is the link to the article about it no links to sdload are provided in this page or in this forum and i hope that no one posts here where to get it eaither

@tabletpc
First off - You are starting a new thread, with old news, and your incorrect\minimalist spin on it. So, as usual, I'll just dive right in(But don't get upset or feel bad, read the whole thing first, you'll understand it's truly nothing personal):
Quote: for anyone here tired of paying a arm and a leg do you use roms you legally own well have i got your saving grace here
Well, legally owned games are clearly the way to go. I won't discuss illegal things here. I just wanted to get that out of the way. And seeing as this has been posted in multiple threads already, you're hardly anyone's "saving grace".
Quote: a hacker who got tired of paying for vc games decided to use a gamecube emulator to play roms on his wii
Newsflash - This wasn't discovered by any l33t haxorzez. It's been known just by simple trial, that this trick works on the Wii, because it is the same processor, and programming architecture as the GCN. Many GCN modders were popularly speculating it long before the system's release.
Quote: so far from what i have read you need this
It's never good to start an informative walk through, with statements like:
-From what I've heard
-I think you
-This might work
-This guy told me
If you don't even have a certainty, you shouldn't start a thread for it. Especially calling yourself a 'saving grace'.
Now - I'm going to more thoroughly, clearly and (hopefully)more accurately explain the actual process.
SDLoad is a front-end Gamecube loader program. It browses through your memory card(Or a burned disc, this method is less used), in a file-tree format. You select a .dol file, which is the GCN's version of .exe basically. The .dol is NOT the rom. The .dol file is an emulator or other application(Media player, homebrew, etc, etc), sometimes set up as a direct-load without an interface, which might make it seem like it's just a rom.
There are a number of memory card tricks/exploits/alternatives/methods that can be used, many popular ones are:
-Max Memory Kit for the GCN, which contains a memory card with a usb port, and a driver kit for your pc. This is a simple method.
-An SD memory card adapter(So that you can plug the SD card into your pc, then into the GCN through this adapter.) Some people buy these, some people make them. It's not a terribly difficult build, but it's not for everyone
-Some people have used the PSO exploit to transfer files to a memory card, through their network. It's not the easiest method, but it requires very little cash, and no real hardware tweaking. Plus, if a friend has this setup, you can have them do this for you much faster; essentially it's piggy backing your mod setup through theirs.
-Some even make their own adapters to read a GCN card through a USB cable directly, much similar to the way that the XBox action replay was used.
You load the action replay with the set of codes, which definitely take some time to input the first time, but is worth your while. Once you've done that, you can load it every time. The 'codes' are actually a complete(Small) thread of program, designed to override the system, and directly bring you to a dev-type user interface, very command-prompt like. Again, from here, you browse to your desired .dol file, whether it's on a burned disc, or the memory card.
It should be noted, this method cannot be used to adequately emulate a Nintendo 64. Also, it should be noted that this method will require you to use a gamecube controller, because the Action Replay won't recognize anything else(Because it was programmed for that, in fact a lot of older Action Replay models wouldn't even recognize a simple wavebird controller!
At this point, there should be much less confusion about the method.
@tabletpc, you really should not have started this thread, the topic is already covered, much better in numerous other threads. If you really wanted to do so, and be everyone's 'saving grace' you might have actually linked, referenced, or at least READ the other posts that actually really explain the process. You're eager, and you're learning a lot fast, I respect that. Just please be careful not to spread information that is incomplete, theoretical, or specualtive.
You get a lot of pushback when you start threads, and not just from me. If you take a little more care in detail, noting resources, or giving stronger info; you'll find yourself fitting right in here. I hope to see that happen, because you clearly have the heart for it.

Do you know about how the save SRAMs work with SDLOAD. I can't seem to get any to work. I am using SD Gecko, AR 1.06 and a US Wii.
