I have noticed this problem for the last couple of weeks.
after i shut down Azureus, i noticed a drain on my internet speed.
i popped open Zone Alarm and saw that it was blocking a massive amount of incoming intrusions; the number would jump up by 3 or 4 at a time.
i checked the ZA logs and saw that all the intrusion attempts were aimed at the port (in the 53000 region)i had forwarded on my router for Azureus to use. Zone Alarm was blocking everything, so that was fine, but all the intrusions were slowing things up. i removed the port in question from the forwarding and the intrusions stopped. unfortunately, i have had to move my port forwarding range up twice more in the last couple of weeks because this problem keeps orruring when i shut down Azureus.
i just wanted to know if anyone out there has experienced anything similar and has any suggestions of what to do so i don't have to keep changing the port forwarding range.
thanks

If you using Zone Alarm Free, the port that you are using for your torrent connections will only stay open as long as you have your torrent client up and running. Once you close your client, Zone Alarm will block connections to that port. Those intrusions are nothing to worry about as they are just other people trying to download the file you were seeding before you closed Azureus. They should drop off completely in about 5-10 minutes.

As for the slowdown, I don't know what that's about, some versions of Zone Alarm can slow your connection. This was happening to me with the latest version, so I had to rollback to fix the problem after I researched it a little. I've found that the most current stable version is 6.1.744
