I have two more questions regarding rewritable dvd media -
is it necessary to erase the disc before rewriting because it takes some time? My Nero 7 took around twenty minutes - or can one just copy new data over it?
One final question I tried to burn a RW disc tonight and Nero didn't want to copy it at all said something like "cannot copy to dvd" is this some kind of flaw - can one normally burn a DVD-RW directly to a dvd-r/dvd+r

on the whole erase issue ! I think it would depend on what programs you use !some erase faster than others ! also I would do A complete erase if you are using the RW disc for movies . Which most people don't do Unless your experimenting to see if something works before commiting it to a permanent ( DVD+R/DVD-R ) Disc . Or perhaps you may be using your disc (RW) in a DVD Recorder - In that case if you record over your previous program ( Movie ,TVprogram ect...) And the older program/movie is longer than the new you'll end up with all of one movie -the new one & part of the old movie ! and while it really would'nt hurt anything ,it can be confusing and look silly ! can one normally burn a DVD-RW directly to a dvd-r/dvd+r - If you mean Copy it to the dvd-r/dvd+r disc the answer is yes ! assuming that you have enough space on the destination disc (Blank) and either two drives or a copying program & 1 Burner ! On ther error message - RW disc Especially inexpensive ones Have a tendency to become Unreadale or error laden after multiple rewritings ! while you can mitigate his somewhat by careful use and protection of your RW media & using better media ( Verbatim ect...) You'll find that RW disc scratch easier than +R /-R disc do which may be the cause of errors /early failure !~ hope that helps !!! Ciao!

thankyou that does help.
I'm still baffled as to why Nero wouldn't read the rewritable ... oh well strange things do happen I guess. I had to go the full circle and burn over again to the DVD+R and just to confuse everyone more I tried to see if Nero would read *that* disc and it did.
thanks for answering the rewritable media question
