I'm using Sony 16x media and I usually burn at 2-2.4x. Should I burn at a faster speed? Just figured the slower the better. Thanks

Going by what I've read, burning too slow can be as bad as burning too fast. 4x seems to be a good starting point and burning at 1/2 the rated speed of the media is a good rule of thumb.

Call me reckless I always burn 16X Verbs at 16X. Seems burning 16X Taiyo Yuden's at 16X is not a good idea though as I (and others) have experienced compatability problems so I no longer buy them. The 8X TY's burned at 8X work fine.

i burn all my 16x TY's at 8x, all my 8x TY's at 8x also, all my 8x and 16x Verbs at 8x (except MCC004 which i have to do at 4x).
..but generally, i often read that it's not recommended to burn 16x media at 4x. burning 8x media at 4x is ok, if a little slow, i used to do 4x for the longest time, but now do most stuff at 8x (even multiple recorder burns in Nero)

I have been burning all my 16x media at 12x with excellent results using both my Benq and NEC burners. My 8x media I burn at 4x with great results as well.
Cheers.

I burn my 16X media at 12X and my 8X media at 8X with no ill effects...as stated earlier, you may get a lower quality result when burning quality media too far below it's recommended speed.

I use only 16x verb's and although I always intend to slow down, I always forget and end up burning at 16x. Thus far, been lucky and had no problems.

Why lucky? Reading the reviews and media tests at CDFreak's shows many excellant burns at 16X, even with 2nd and 3rd class media.
