I am building a gaming rig and I want to get the best video card possible. That means I will be buying a GeForce 8800 GTX. I went to newegg.com and they have a lot of choices. I was planning on getting the BFG Tech card but I am really confused. They have one for $799 and one for $599, but I can't really see the difference in the specs. The one for $799 says it requires a liquid cooling system, is it really important to have a liquid cooling system if I'm not planning on overclocking? I am also wondering if BFG Tech is the best brand name to go with. I would just go for the cheaper one, but the whole reason I am getting this card is because I thought it was directx 10 compatible, and I don't know if the cheaper one is. I just don't understand why they have $799 cards, then all of a sudden the price drops to $599 for what seems to be the same card. This is really frustrating because I thought I had everything figured out for my build, but this is going to delay things further. I am getting an EVGA nForce 680i SLI mobo, and I think both cards will work with this mobo. If anyone could help clear all this up I would really appreciate it. NOPE, if you have no immediate plans on overclocking either the cpu or the video card, then the water-cooled 8800gtx version ($799 one) is NOT necessary...
in terms of deciding between the various companies for the 8800gtx, they're all built on the SAME nvidia reference board design, the only differences between the cards from say BFG/eVGA/XFX/Msi/PNY/etc. is just the logo/choice of fans and the "bundled game" /accessories package some companies choose to give you in their retail package; they choose to use on a practically identical reference board by Nvidia. :)
i happen to have gone w/ eVGA for my own 8800gtx (2) in SLI, not saying eVGA is a "better" choice than the BFG, i'm sure they're equally as good and are BOTH directx10 compatible, i've just been very pleased with eVGA's customer support and products in the past and besides, i used their "step-up" program to get my 2nd 8800gtx at a significant discount with the return of my eVGA 7900gtx :)
both eVGA and BFG have lifetime warranties for their cards, so that shouldn't be an issue in your choice, just make sure your case is large enough to fit the card...it's a bit long (10.5") and you should find a case with room to spare for your harddrives.
also, if you plan on going SLI, make sure you have a powersupply strong enough to power your system, if the 1000w Enermax Galaxy or PC Power & Cooling units are a bit too pricey for you, i would definitely suggest this one right here:
this one is brand new on the market and is SLI certified to run dual 8800gtx (and naturally will be more than enough to run a single 8800gtx) :P
one word of caution, when building with high end components and expensive products, don't skimp/cut corners to save a few bucks on your powersupply...there are quite a few "crappy" powersupplies out there that "claim" high-end output, but fall very short of their claims in the efficiency dept.

Yep you right kivory666, he does not need a water cooling system. Wish I could get a Gcard like that, anyway. The PS kivory666 suggested is not the best but its realy realy good and it also supports SLI. And for the type of Gcard it would be eVGA for me, its just a better card and its most known around the place. But as I say to everyone "its your money". When you done with your rig let me know I might get some of your old parts from you. See waa
