Nero burn errors - VBR MP3 to WAV?

Greetings all. I have encountered an issue which I hope someone could shed some light upon. I recently made an audio CD (WAV format)from 320 CBR and 192 VBR MP3s, using Nero Burning ROM 7.0.8.2. While I generally write at a speed of 40x, I used 48x for this burn. Nero verified that the write was successful. After playing the CD, I noticed that while the CBR files sounded fine, the VBR MP3s consistently had audio problems. It sounds like the files are skipping. I have confirmed there are no problems with the original MP3 files themselves, the CD player, nor the CD burner. In addition, I have burned countless CDs and DVDs with Nero 7.0.8.2 without incident (I have not, however, needed to burn MP3s to WAV before). Has anyone had similar issues with this? Could it simply be that the higher burn speed is the culprit? Or does Nero have an issue handling variable bit rate MP3s?
If this helps, I should also mention that LAME 3.97 b2 and Exact Audio Copy v 95 b3 were used to create the MP3s.
