Quote: A little video has come to our attention which shows the running of a supposed Wii backup via the use of a bootloader that is stored on the memory card. The author says to expect something special this new years...

In fact I think we would be fooling our selves if we have a community this large, and did not realize that there are some enemies present.

This video was already posted, but ya it looks pretty sweet.

I however think that it is fake, because I've looked all over the internet, and haven't found anything on how to burn Wii games. But ya, if it is possible, that would be really awesome.

They could have just made a well-timed video on the computer and put it in the DVD player...
I did that once on my computer to show "the first working GameCube emulator" as a prank on a now-defunct message board. People believed it. I just made a video of me playing GameCube, imported it into my computer, threw together a fake interface in photoshop and overlayed my video on top in Final Cut Pro.

I'm somewhat mixed on that because it's always the same video input shown the times that the Wii is reset(AV1). Still, this seems quite tempting and I might just try it when I get my Wii either later this week or January.

It's probably fake. A real video would leave absolutely NO room for speculation.
That aside; I do think it will only be a little while before a boot-loader is released, or even a stealth-type mod chip. It's intriguing to watch this sort of race between modders and the official companies.
For those who honestly believe Sony loves modders; you really need to get your head examined. That is a truly ignorant statement. I'll explain:
Sony's PS2 is heftily protected. An overseas manufacturer did crack the protection, and manufacture HD loaders, etc. but that cannot be controlled, there is no 'update' functionality to the system, so it's not like they could have patched the system to detect it. The fact that some people use swapmagic, and flip top replacements doesn't reflect on Sony 'liking' modders, it reflects that Sony's console is so popular, that modders have gone to extreme lengths to alter this system. Even then, new games are using different protection methods constantly, particularly notable, the Tom Clancy games on PS2 are notably hard to bypass.
As for the PSP; Sony is constantly trying to update firmware, and protect the system further and further through harder and harder encryption. But they are suffering, due to the number of users who refused those updates, or some who even downgraded their systems. That's out of a company's hands. They can't control it(And as a result, Sony's PSP sales may mean that the system's lifetime will be shortlived.)
These things don't mean that Sony is mod-friendly, that's just an ignorant statement. I mean, heck, if you want to make that kind of statement; you can at least pick a smarter statement, like saying M$ is mod-friendly, because you can easily utilize their OWN hardware without any kind of modding in all kinds of unauthorized ways. They didn't update their protection, and once bypassed, the system is completely open to the user's whims. Now, if you're going to argue that a company LIKES modders, that's a better candidate.
Although, there are still many flaws in your suggestion even then. Allow me to explain:
When $ony or Micro$oft sell you their systems, can you guess how much profit they make? Let's try a nice round number, like zero. $ony and Micro$oft don't make a dime when they sell you their consoles. In fact, even on the older versions(PS2 and orig. XBox) they lose money on the sale of the system alone. They are counting on consumers to buy enough software for the system to make their money back, by charging royalty licesning fees, which return funds based on sales. Therefore, if you buy the system(Anything but the Wii), and just mod it, the company actually loses money on you, as a consumer.
When you buy a loader setup for your PS2, $ony doesn't see a dime. When you retrofit your XBox as a media player, M$ doesn't see a penny. Only buy acting as a responsible consumer, and legitimately purchasing these games, does the company make their money back. Some will argue accessories, but it's such a minimal profit level, that it can hardly be said as a 'payback' to them, in many cases it has been specualted that accessory sales are almost level with production costs, only slightly favoring manufacturers. Considering how many consumers also choose to go with third party hardware(Why oh why would you do that? Unless it's logitech..) which, again, manufacturers like $ony and M$ make no money off that.
These companies don't just stand to 'not make as much money' on modders, they stand to lose money because of modders. They don't 'like' modding.

I can't believe you just took my statement so seriously that you would right an entire essay about it, I love people that rise up to it.
Anyway what I mean to say excluding the PSP as we are talking about the PS2 and Wii main consoles, I was only saying it was easy to mod even soft mod, as when I got the slimline PS2 all i did was jam up a few buttons and then I could play PS1 backups on it, even the PS1 was the same.
All I'm saying is the PS2 was made very lazy they refused to test these things, unlike Nintendo look how long we waited for the Wii they started making it as soon as the cube was out, extensive testing and tinkering, they must think of all of these things, how long did it take for the cube to be hacked, and even then it only happened because of a mistake in PSO, most likely done on purpose to boots sales of the Cube, at the last minute.
All my statement implies is that Sony is lazy, even with the PSP, until they decided to make patches and updates for it, they didn't test for anything like that they assumed UMD was the ultimate security feature.
The Wii wont be hacked for ages these people who are claiming they have .ISO and done it NEED THERE HEADS EXAMINED.
oh dear I wrote an essay.
