before reading threads here i didn't think there would be such a huge difference in what type of media i used. I bought a pack of 50 Windata DVD+R from Microcenter for 10 bucks.
at the moment im using dvd-r's for burning PS2 backup games, but soon i will be burning DVD backups as well as burning my own DVDs.
Well now i know that i shouldn't use these cheap DVDR's for the playstation because they wear out the laser. but how about for burning other stuff?
I ordered some quality Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's, but i'm left with about 40 of these cheap ones. pretty much what i'm asking is what are they good for?
please don't say coaster.

Use them as test burns to make sure you got what you wanted. After that, transfer to the TY's. I've done that and it prevents me from wasting a good one on something I messed up. Good luck!

With the price of oil,nat gas,and propane-you can get a few BTU's out of them from your wood burner!
You can use them for dvd backups. I buy all types of media just to try out and I usually throw them at my lil brother, LOL. He's not complaining. Just a few things to remember:
1)Keep the backup target reduced, between 4300-4360 mbs-which means keep a close eye on the ending of your movies during playback.
2) The possibility of playback issues will rise
3) Don't put anything important on them.
4) Keep the burn speed around 4x
5) Keep compression to a minimum-main movie only
6) You can use them for data. It's not as strenuous as dvd backups-which is the compression.
My benq drives have no issues burning crap media, but my PIE and PIF errors skyrocket when testing Prodisc and cmag media.
A quality burner doesn't hurt either. My q's and plextor will burn anything I throw at them. Some drives don't react too kindly to the crap media.

BigToxy beat me again, Nuttin' that a good ol' shotty-gun won't fix, er, I mean totally mess up beyond repair. Hard drives are my favorite target for 00 buckshot.
Use these disks as give-aways, like when a friend wants to borrow a movie from you, that way if you don't get it back in a couple of months, it won't play for them anyways..

I know I'm a couple of days late here, but a friend of mine has taken those discs and used them as Christmas ornaments. Some were sprayed with a semi transparent paint and they're rather unique looking.
