If I want to use a DVD + RW in my stand alone DVD player is there something that I need to do? i.e. close the DVD or anything like that?

I was backing up one of my movies to a DVD +RW and I wanted to see if I could play that backup in my Sony DVD which supports DVD + and -. However the DVD player will not read this media. The DVD +RW that I am using is a Sony DVD +RW. Am I missing a step?

ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe, AMD 4200 X2, ATI All-In Wonder X1900, Corsair 2GB PC6400, Seagate 80 gig SATA, Maxtor 200 gig SATA, WD 200 gig PATA.

PvtJoker- Rewritable media is less Reflective than Write-once (DVD+R or DVD -R media) & therefore more difficult for some dvd player to read ! Also not all DVD players can read Rewriteable disc so you might want to reread you manual if you have it !

DVD+RW media do not need to be finalized, but DVD-RW do because of differences in the file structures. If the DVD player is not able to read the disc but the drive that recorded it can, then BIGTOXY69's explanation about reflectivity is probably the best answer.

Hi, Why dont you try Booktyping the DVD+RW To DVD-Rom that will help in most cases. Also you can try closing the dvd, you dont loose anything, sometimes dvd players are picky. Sony DVD+RW are really good so I doubt is the media. If all fails, then we can quote BIGTOXY69 answer.

I have a Philips HDVDR and whilst you dont finalise DVD+RW - it has a step called 'make edits compatable' to ensure it works on other machines

if consider a read/write disc as 'a work in progress' it would need some sort of finalising to make it 'universal' & i'm sure your machine will have some step you need to find to do this
