I recently did a firmware update for my TS-L532A combo drive on my Gateway 7330gz laptop and now it will not read blank dvd-r's, cd-r's, and it doesn't read media I previously burnt with the drive (cd or dvd). But it will read my store bought dvd's? The indicator light just remains lit on the drive slot.
I know there's a few firmware types to use with this drive but i'm not having any luck. I got the updates from http://www.toshibaer.com/.
Argh not another one of these! I'm going to be short with you. This has come up quite a few times here, and myself along with another very knowledgeable member came to no conlusion as to what to do.
But we'll see anyhow. What version of the firmware did you update to? That will help.

That firmware is useless. The one you updated to is merely a Slave Function firmware according to The Firmware Page. There are other versions out there, but it's not really clear what to flash to.
Well, lots of version are shown here.

Apart from trying them, I can't think what else you can do. To be frank, this drive is utter rubbish and this is common.
As this is a laptop, the easiest thing for you to do is buy an internal desktop drive and then put it in an enclosure and connect it to the laptop. Just search to find info on that.
Edit: you might get luck by asking here. There are a lot of firmware patchers etc over there and one might be able to guide you as to which version to use.
