So I was reading Gizmodo earlier today, and found that they posted a page on where to get Component Cables, and for different prices.
Here is the link:

I think that the good price here is at PlayAsia. It's only $9 with $3.50 shipping.

I'd be sending the cables back and asking for a refund if the price was not as adverised.
I just went to the store and added the cables to the cart and display price is as stated.

How do you know the Component Cables at PlayAsia are junk? Did you buy the cables personally? The fact that I'll be using my Wii for only 2 more months I mine as well buy the 10 dollar ones at PlayAsia.

first play asia's own component cables are not gold plated they are cheap silver plated garbage not only will this eventually cause a short on your wii this will also cause damage to you wii at the console because silver connectors on both ends of the cable eventually coruode
and cause a short
this is why when you purchase dvd players and xbox's they coat the plugs in gold plating

did you also notice that madcatz has a very high shipping rate so you spend 49.99 even if you purchase it from them
19.99+25.99 for shipping to certain areas in the united staes
and worse if you are out of country i.e japan i.e china and so on

i dont think u have a clue about the plating at all. it doesnt matter what colour it. ones brass and the other is metal simple. if it was a big deal nintendo would have it for all there product. Yes? finally there all rca cables, when in the end its copper wire coated in plastic with a brass head or a metal.

Ok so when you saw the shipping charges, before you finished the checkout process, was more than what you thought they should be and it bumped the cost above retail store prices, did you still buy them? If so, a fool and his money are soon parted. I don't mean to be harsh, but when you run something down like that because of a known issue, its your own fault.

Yes the Playasia cables are cheap and so is the price, you get what you pay for. When was the last time you actually saw a standard metal clip while in use, corrode to the point of a short? Myself never. The air is not humid enough to corrode metals that way, it would have to get wet and stay wet, at least during the time the Wii will be the main gaming system of choice. Is the Wii port gold plated, NO! Usually the ends tarnish on standard metal clips, a little and a little cleaning and all is well.
Also corrosion will cause a high resistance and if anything will just make the cable unusable due to the extra resistance not cause a short to power, which is what would have to happen to render the console damaged. The connector in the Wii could possibly become corroded if the cables are left together long enough in a corroded state, which would cause some minor damage to it
The cables do have low voltage in them which does mean that any corrosion or tarnishing that happens to the contacts will impair the signal out causing bad imaging and sound. So it woud be wise to buy the best cables you can afford and keep them clean, but gold plating not required.

Did you actually look at the check out screen? The shipping rates are actually very reasonable. First, there are no differences in price for shipping to different parts of the states. Second, there ARE three tiers of shipping prices, from: standard 4-7 days @$7.50, second day @ $13.50 and Next day @ $25.75. If you order them by 4-7 day shipping, with tax it's only about $29.00 not 49.99.
