I have been backing up my dvd's for some time now without errors or problems but at last something surfaced. I brought some Fujifilm dvd-r's yesterday instead of the dvd+r's that i always use. and now after using the same process as always{dvdfab=dvdshrink=imgburn} after imgburn is complete i get a disk tat says it's is a unsupported format. Is it the disk or am i doing something wrong that needs to be changed?

That sounds like the culprit. You switched formats and you also switched MID codes.
Did you also switch speeds?Example: Went from +8x media to -16x or vice versa?

Did that disc actually get burned?
Several possibilities here.
1)Compatability: You've got the plus and dash format. Some drives can have problems with 1,both,or none of them. The plus format can be booktyped to dvd-rom,making for a higher compable backup. Dash cannot be booktyped. Depending on your burner drive, your backups may have been booktyped when you used the plus format. ImgBurn,Nero and some other programs can set the booktype, depending on what drive you have.
2) You switched MID codes. Can be a firmware issue if the backup didn't burn-failure during the lead-in phase. Burners have firmware. Firmware is the built in programing that controls the writing strategy for your blank media. As newer media is coming out, some manufacturers test all the media and issue firmware updates to help them burn properly. This can be a factor when going from a slower speed of blank media to the faster 16x media. If that MID code isn't programed into your firmware,it will not know how to burn it-resulting in an illegal disc.
What's the brand name, model #,and current firmware version of your burner?
What's the MID codes for your blank dvd media?
You can use this free program that will tell us the info. It'll even tell you if your plus backups are booktyped:
Insert backup disc, open up dvdidentifier, select drive, click identify, click the clipboard icon, and paste it into your next post.
Also throw in a pic of those fuji dash.
3) Media quality. With the changing of the MID codes,so does the quality. Fuji, like most brand named media, outsource their media to many different manufacturers: Prodisc, fujifilm, and taiyo yuden are a couple. There's a heck of a quality difference if going from +8x fuji Yuden000-T02 and going to dash format fujifilm. That's why I'll only buy the "Made in Japan fuji",by looking at the outer shrink wrapper for country they were made in.
4) Bad batch of media. It can happen with any brand name, even taiyo yuden and verbatim. Try a disc that is near the bottom of the spindle.
