I purchased Nero a few days ago and I keep getting an illegal disc error. I'm using sony dvd+r's. I've looked around this site some but I'm just getting started and I really don't know what I'm doing. I also tried some Maxell dvd+r's. I did download a program to delete some roxio stuff to see if that was the problem.
Can someone take a look at this and tell me what I'm doing wrong? This went through DVD Decrypter first but won't burn using Nero or DVD Shrink.

Turn DMA mode back on for this drives. Here's a guide.

Older dvd drive - does have the latest firmware. But it may just be time to replace this drive. Max burn speed is 2.4x w/ the last support in 3/04. So finding media that will work with it (8x or lower) may be a challenge.
Nero API version: 7.5.9.0
Using interface version: 6.3.1.4
Still have some of Nero 6 left so at some point do a clean install of Nero 7. Uninstall Nero - run the clean tool and reinstall Nero.

Thanks for the info. I did a clean install of Nero 7 and tried to turn DMA mode back on. For the Primary IDE channel, on Device 1, the Current Transfer Mode is Not Applicable. Could this be my problem? I can't get it to change to Ultra DMA Mode 5.

You're okay on device 1 on the primary channel showing not applicable.
That just means that no drive is attached to this port.
Your hard drive is on the primary and your dvd drive and dvd rom are on the secondary channel. DMA is now back on - so good there.
What's the rated speed of the media you are using?
Your drive still doesn't like them and is having a hard time recognizing them hence the illegal disc error.
For this drive - 8x media may be ok - but I would look for 4x media. If you can find either may be hard depending on where you're located.
I think you best bet in the long run is just to replace this drive- they are pretty cheap now.

Thanks for the help. The Maxells that I tried were 16x and the Sony are 1x-16x speed compatible.

I don't think this drive will do very well w/ 16x media. No updates for over 2-1/2 years.
16x media is pretty common now so I'm still thinking a new drive is your best bet.
Good ones to look at would be LiteOn, Pioneer, NEC or Plextor.
