AVI to DVD Video Resolution Help???

Hey guys, I am trying to put a couple hours of tape on to dvd. There was some fuzziness at the bottom of the video so I was going to export the video from Ulead VideoStudio to Virtual Dub. However, once I trim the video and try to resize it back to 720x480 the pixels look horrible. Any recommendations to get around this problem?
