Hello pgavinski,
How to backup a copy-protected DVD to your Mac hard drive:
1. Play the DVD with Apple's DVD Player.
2. Use MacTheRipper to remove the copy protection (i.e. rip). You can search Google for MacTheRipper 2.6.6 (freeware) or get the latest beta version, MacTheRipper 3.0 r-13e, by donating at RipDifferent.
3. A 'Full Disc Extraction' with MacTheRipper will save the entire DVD to your hard drive or desktop.
4. Once saved, open Apple's DVD Player, select File > Open DVD Media and browse to the location of the DVD's VIDEO_TS folder on your hard drive and select Choose.
5. Press Play on the Apple DVD Player Controller and your movie should play.
All the best.

yes that should work. if mac the ripper wont rip the dvd down try fast dvd copy, Rip only option. Then play it in apple's dvd player like david456 said. You could also take out bonus, sub titles and other audio to save space on your HD

FastDVD Copy will burn it if you want. Or you can set it to rip & compress and it just does the VIDEO_TS folder witch you could burn

What do ya'll know about, why some DVDs work and others don't? Is there a way to tell before you try?
When I go forwards you go backwards
and somewhere we will meet.
