Yeah, I should do a Kid's show! LOL. Those Sony MIJs are almost impossible to find.Did you know that over where "creaky" lives you can get Made In Japan Verbatims? Taiyo Yuden Verbatims!
Happy Holidays BIGTOXY!
On another "media" note, Circuit City has 50 packs of CD-Rs made by TDK for $4.99! Those are actually decent.
Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

@movies27, Ha..I can relate. The same thing happened to me last Sunday....Best Buys useless employee staff serve to do nothing more than to ring up their merchandise and keep their items from walking out the door (stolen). This "I don't know" "I can't find" response is common from one location to the next. I've even encountered a make shift store policy concocted by an employee (cashier) who tried telling me that I could only purchase two SONY 50 pack spindles at a time? I laughed and asked that I see this in writing. Naturally they couldn't produce a legal written document. I made my purchase and went about my day. See some employee staff I feel take a vigilante approach to things taking un-neeeded stock in what these blank disc are used for and basically work to obstruct the sale. Funny the same idiot would sell you a DVD burner? Like duh? I guess they assume these are used to dispose of your DVD collection by fire. It's not just DVD's either, I find their staffed to be totally un-informed and unconcerned. So much so that when I shop there I do as much as I can for myself and when I can no longer do this. I leave.:P

There's nothing wrong with the Sony MIT disks either. I get essentially the same burn quality scores as with either the Sony MIJ or Verbatims. Some burners have problems with them however.

Agreed,It's an old myth someone started and is still perpetuated to psych out uninformed forum members to buying other brands like Tayo which is not sold by retailers in the US but can be purchased online and wholesale retail. What most people don't realize is Tayo is sold in grades i.e. A grade B grade Etc. A fact not commonly disclosed. Tayo Yuden also suffer with immitations knock offs that are sometime sold & purchased online. SONY & Verbatim sold retail are the best quality DVD disc you can buy made where ever Taiwan,Singapore, or Japan.
The way I see it these two brands are the only two that make a promise of quality to the comsumer that is found on the label i.e. manufacture accountability. The cheaper brands don't make such claims so it's just blank recordable DVD media, thus you get what you pay for. Notice Verbatim & SONY both made in Taiwan but by different companies. Strangely enough like the cheaper CMC or otherwise brands Tayo is sold with no labels and thus no manufacture guarantee or promise to quality. Which leaves the brand itself open to be immitated, though the "REAL" Tayo Yuden media is known for it's quality.
I use SONY media and have done so for many years without any trouble though currently I prefer Verbatim if I'm using 16X media. DVD +R I found can be unstable and less reliable than -R which I favor over +R. If you are being told that SONY Taiwan made media is "no good" here or at any other forum ask whom ever makes this claim to prove it, but don't hold ya breath.:P

Hi Everyone -
My first post! I have been a long time reader, especially of the media sales threads. Just thought everyone would like to know that BestBuy.com is selling Sony DVD+/-R (16x) 50 pack spindles for $12.99 with free shipping. I just happened to go to their site and noticed a two day sale (started on Sunday). I ordered a spindle and had no problems with it being sold out. There are some other deals on media as well in case anyone is interested.
Just thought I would contribute since you have all helped me QUITE a few times!! Enjoy

Sony MIT? are those the Sony D21's you're saying are as good as Verbatims and Taiyo Yudens? Some people claim this and it's not true. Quality Scans show 1000+ PIF Totals just like sucky Memorex. I have a BenQ 1655 and a Pioneer 111d which are arguably the 2 best burners on Earth. On many burns with both I get the same crappy results with D21's. I used to have a BenQ 1640 which is like a legendary burner for some and it did poorly with those as well. D21's are pure $ony crap. I only burn @8x and I know what I'm talking about. If you care about quality burns, it's pure stupidity to use anything but premium grade Taiyo Yuden 8x media. It doesn't even matter whether it's -r or +r. Premium grade TY will get you those 97-99 quality scores with sub 200 pif totals. That's assuming you're burner isn't crap. The horrible $ony dvd+/-r's are good if you want to copy something for a friend and don't want to waste your supply of TY's.

N2DVD- It's not so much that the Made in taiwan sony are no good ! I've used Verbatims , Riteks & Ricohjpns all made in taiwan with good quality burns & no problems ! Granted the Verbatims are The best out of that grouping but I like the other brands as well ! The Whole Japanese Versus Taiwanese Media argument Seems to stem from the fact that Although excellent media like Verbatim are made there ! Crappy CMC made and other low quality brands are made there too ! Were as most of the MIJ made media available here is consistantly or at least Fairly consistantly of uniform high quality ( TAIYO YUDEN = SONY & FUJI MIJ ECT...) And the excellent Maxell /Hitachi MIJ's as well ! - So as I see it were it (media ) is made is important yes but more important than that is How it's made - Quality of materials Dyes , Plastics & the quality Control or lack thereof ! Excellent media can and is being made in Taiwan Verbatims are proof positive of that ! & Verbatims have the three things all media needs Quality materials , Quality Control & most importantly consistent quality so you know pretty much from one spindle to the next what your getting ! as opposed to some o f the other brands who seem to change who OEM's their media from spindle to spindle ! So Maybe a good batch this time crappy next time ect... That's what has given Taiwan made disc a bad rep in general ! But Like I said earlier I happily use Taiwan made media quite often , Ritek -Maxell's ,Officedepot , Verbatims , Ricohjpns ect... depending on whats on sale or what's on hand ! But given a preference at the same price I would pick MIJ media , Now if the Quality MIT media is on sale I'll but it as well ! I just got in some Verbatims from officemax's sale and look forward to using them ! To Me Verbatims and Taiyo yudens are interchangeable for my purposes ! MIj sony's /taiyo yudens are getting harder to find & MIJ fuji's are nearly extinct here ! So I find myself buying more and more Verbatims lately - nice prices easy to find great quality ! I know that we can order Taiyo Yuden online too , but then you end up paying more for DVD+R media whereas if you buy branded media locally DVD+R & DVD-R are the same price ! in the final analysis you use what you like and what burns well for you on your equipment ! as long as it works good luck & Happy burning & Merry Xmas !

i don't see why anyone care's about whether it's +r or -r any longer either. it's not 1999 anymore. just about all dvd players nowadays play both without a problem. i just did a quality scan of a ty 8x -r burn and I got a quality score of 99. 54 pif total and a max pif of 3. Burned with a pioneer 111d and scanned with a Benq 1655. that's a full dvd too. so go ahead and buy $ony or some other crap brand and pray you get a good batch. or you can do the sensible thing and vist supermediastore.com and order some premium 8x Taiyo Yuden. They have a special for 200 dvd-r's with paper sleeves for $58 plus shipping. why shoot a long jumper when you can just dunk the ball?

maxxjulie- It is of course a free country ! Well perhaps in most of the world anyways ! And you or I or anyone else for that matter are free to use the type , speed , brand & format of media they desire ! that is called freedom of choice !!! I've often said and or opined that given the same level of media quality - comparing apples to apples as it were there is no real difference in DVD+R and DVD-R Other than if you have a drive that can booktype ! otherwise buy whatever you like or what burns and plays well for you ! you are right in that most modern DVD players will play either format ! Or as one afterdawn member has said previously " It'll play a pepperoni pizza if the cheese ain't to thick!!!" The thing is That not everyone has a recent ( less than 2 years old ) or so DVD player so Booktyping ( DVD+R to DVD-ROM ) gives one the ultimate compatability if it won't play booktyped disc it probably won't play commercial (Movies ) dvd's either ! Also Some dvd Burners tend to do a little better with DVD+R media than DVD-R media so that could be a reason to use it as well ( Like Benq's ) Personally I use both and have no qualms about using either ! or Buying either ! And yes the MIJ sony's are becoming Scarcer and the MIJ fuji's are almost extinct !!! Maxell's MIJ disc are available but hard to find on sale ! The Reason for people hunting them is you get your media then & there ( No waiting on Fed-ex ) and also if you are one of those people who use's & or prefers DVD+R media -buying it online tends to be more expensive than buying Branded media locally !which is normally the same price in either format ! maxxjulie I respect your opinion & point of view just remember that opinions are like Bellybuttons we all have them and all of ours are different ! in the greater sceme of things the only truly important thing is are you happy with your Burns whatever brand , format , speed of media you use is secondary If you are a happy camper & enjoy your hobby ( burning dvd's ) & your disc come out okay then be happy & Enjoy your holidays ! Respectfully Yours ! peace !

Hey guys why not just take the sales ad to either walmart, circut city, staples or target and just have them match the price if they have the MIJ's your looking for!!! Thats the best solution in my opinion because all those stores match prices for one another and give 110% price match. I will be going on my search for some mijs this weekend!

I agree about the + and - R's. Either play well for me, and will for most everyone with a newer player. I DONT agree Sony MIT are crap. For that matter, getting a quality scan means shit to me. I can take a dvd and scan it with one drive, then another drive and get two different scores. Lower the scan speed, yet another DIFFERENT score. Every D21 i burnt scanned over 90, which is good enough to me. So what does that mean? Not a damn thing, since im not watching those dvd's on my computer anyhow! Never could figure out how to scan on my upconverting dvd player..lmao!As far as the deal at supermediastore.com.....if I can go to Staples and get Sony D21's for around $55 ill go that route instead. If i have a bad batch, back go the rest and they'll gladly exchange them. Paper sleeves? Dont need em. Everybody's got their own preference, but my logic says cheaper(when on sale), closer, and return without hastle is the better deal.
