I don't understand XGA HDTVs, that is, HDTVs with resolutions of 1024x768. This is clearly a 4:3 aspect ratio, so how can there be numerous widescreen HDTV's at this resolution? I'm assuming the horizontal pixels are just wider than the vertical ones, so basically, it's a 4:3 picture stretched to fit a widescreen?

But wouldn't this result in a much lower picture quality?

I'm asking this because there is a standard 1366x768 lcd, and a 1024x768 plasma that are both going on sale at Future Shop on boxing day. The plasm with the lower resolution is 200 dollars cheaper. What's the difference in picture quality between the two?

I don't know the specifics but I can tell you the lcd has a better picture than a plasma any day.

the new lcd's coming out are better than the plasma's check out pcmag.com for thier latest HDTV resource for buying an HDTV.
