yes this is normal with the nintendo wii just make sure you are not blocking any vents on the console this includes the vent on the botom of the console and the vent on the side of the console just after the cd drive insert

Very true, don't block these vents; this means you want to either have your Wii on the stand you were supplied with; which has a built in heat vent; or put it on a surface that won't burn to easily *such as styrofoam*

Which, God only knows why a person would put it on styrofoam.

The reason for the Wii getting so warm, is because it's on; however it's in a "Hibernation" mode if you will. So, it uses little power, but at the same time, keeps no fan on. This meaning, it is just airing itself out.

I own a {insert competitor's system} (sorry!!1!) & was tired of it heating up after prolonged use. Bought a small 8" fan, stood it about 1-2 feet away from the side (without the vents) of the system & use it whenever I play. Seems to keep it very cool, without any thread of a dirt particle entering the vent. Electronics naturally produce heat; you either use your system less or find a way to make it chill out.
