Tried to search to see if this had been posted already but I'm still getting a problem with encoding to mp3 with the mp3 plugin pack in 7.5.9.0. I can convert to mp3 but the resulting song shows up as nearly twice as long as it actually is. A 4:20 original will show up as 7:50 in Windows Media Player, but still sound as though it's playing it OK. Is this still an mp3pro.dll error I noticed from other problems in these forums? Thanks.

What type of file are you encoding from to the mp3? Tell me what I have to know to duplicate your procedure.

Nero 7 v7.10.1.0

I'm just converting from a CD via the Extras - Save Tracks option in Nero. The tracks show up and I select a track to save as mp3 and the result is an mp3 that shows up as longer than it actually is. I've tried using an older mp3pro.dll file but no change. I've always had this with Nero 7 right from the start.

I just followed your procedure and the files seem to be normal in both iTunes and Windows Media Player. I used MP3 Pro with Highest recording quality, with 96kbps 44100 Hz stereo.

All I might think, if the song is actually taking 4:20 to play that perhaps something about the ID3 tag is messed up. If it is really taking 7:50, then something is definitely wrong.

If you have iTunes, you might see if it will convert the ID3 tags--maybe it will correct the problem. But once I imported some songs into iTunes and it gave me a total time as opposed to an individual time for each song. For instance, every song added it's time to the one before it, so the last song showed about an hour long.

I haven't found any other settings that might effect your situation. I did just notice if I disable MP3Pro, I can get a higher quality .mp3 file. I don't know if that is because my version of it is out of date, or what. I guess I will have to check it.

I understand if you use Variable Bit Rate encoding, VBR, rather than Constant Bit Rate, CBR, some applications have a fit when they calculate the remaining time. Maybe this also flows through to the song length.

If you have used VBR, why not try a CBR encoding and compare results?

I should add that there is a great little mp3 encoder plugin available from:
http://neroplugins.afterdawn.com/
Download,Unzip and add the nxLame.dll file into
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\AudioPlugins.
This is based on 3.93.1 LAME. Not the most recent, but it works for me.

Start up Nero.
When you select Convert Audio Cds to Audio Files or Encode Audio Files, you will have a Lame MP3 option and be able to set lots of parameters. For simplicity and good quality, I suggest using Alt Preset Standard. This setting generates a VBR encoded file.

Thanks for all the help. Yes I was using VBR, so I'll try CBR. The music plays fine so it maybe the tag as suggested. I've been using WMP 11's Save As mp3 option instead, but I could try the LAME plug-in.
