Which DVD writer to buy for use in the UK

Hi,

I am finally looking at buying a DVD writer for use in the UK which primarily will be for creating my own DVD's from DV camcorder footage although it may be used for backing up DVD's aswell.

Can somebody advise which would be the best writer to get so that they can be played on stand alone DVD players.

Either Pioneer or HP would be a safe bet, it all comes down to which format you mentally prefer better -- DVD-R/W or DVD+R/W.

I live in UK (moved here 1.5yrs ago and my guestimate is that so far there have been 5 days without rain..) and have ordered few cheap DVD-R discs from UK retailers (in DVDs you also have to remember that quality costs and it matters, but I mostly "test" things, so I don't care about the quality that much) and those are widely available in online stores for £0.99 / disc. But I don't have any idea how well DVD+R or DVD+RW discs are available in the UK or how much they would cost in here.

the HP unit is the least compatible of all of the dvd+rw units and sony is the highest. Whatever you do though, if you are going to buy a dvd+rw unit choose one that also says that it is capable of using dvd+r media for it may save headaches in the future.
