Here is the problem. My old DVD burner burnt out. So i got a new one. It's a Lite On LH-20A1P. I enabled the booktype DVD+R to DVD-ROM with their program but still had a problem that the book type feature of Shrink was greyed out. So i decided to upgrade to the newest version of Nero and i am now getting an error message when attempting to burn., What am i doing wrong. Should i go back to the older version? If you can give me any advice to get the burner to work and to get the DVD+R to DVD-ROM please let me know. Here is the error log

I looked for a firmware update for your new 20X Lite-On. I didn't find any.
I notice your DMA is diabled so you should enable that.
Quote:

Power calibration errors are usually a sign of poor power to your burner, a bad burner, cable connection or bad media. You have a new burner and are using excellent T-Ys so that shouldn't be a problem.

Double check all your connections on your new drive and make sure the jumper position is correct. Usually setting it the way the original burner had it's jumper set is what I do.

Get the DMA enabled.
Do a simulated burn with Nero to check.

Power calibration error guide:

Enable DMA guide:
http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/dvdguide005.html

I'd like to know more about the media you are using. I think you should try Verbatim +R at some point.

I did a Google search with the media ID listed in your log and got this:

never mind i figured it out. But i should have only done one thing at a time to verify what was the problem, but i changed the disk to a new one and i did a DRM force thing from Dell. The old disk i had been using was the same one that kept giving me a power calibration error and the one i used when i was still in PIO. One of theose things worked. Thanks all for your help

i searched google and came across a dell web site that had a small program (which i can not find anymore) to force the burners into DMA. It says that soemtimes on dell computers when you put a new burner in it, it gets stuck in PIO mode and you have to run this small program. It worked like it said. And i did confirm that that was the problem and not the disks.

And sorry, i should have said DMA nor DRM

I think I found it. It's called PIOtoDMA.exe

Is that what you used?

From Dell:
Quote:
This utility can be used to set secondary IDE CD-ROM devices back to a UDMA mode after the Operating System (WindowsXP) has set the device to PIO mode.
