Hi, I'm trying to figure out which wireless router to use with torrents (my client of choice is bitcomet). What routers would be easiest to configure for use with bitcomet, hopefully without having to forward any ports or anything else too complicated (I'm not too good with networking...).

I'm looking for something fast and easy to setup. I need to have at least 4 simultaneous conections. Thanks!

I recommend the Linksys WRT54G series...they're fun, and extremely hackable.

No discredit meant towards you TomMelee, but I personaly would NOT recommend the WRT54G series router. I had many problems with it and found it undependable, not just with torrents but with everything in general. I recently purchased the NetGear WPN824v2 router and absolutely love it. It works way better for me with torrents than the old Linksys did. Not to say Linksys is bad, quite the contrary their a great company with great products but the WRT54G router just never worked for me.

Really? I mean...REALLY? That's almost odd. I've managed to crash it a few times (it being one of those routers that's susceptible to the "too-many-connections" crash (i.e. over 255 active connections....)

I've installed about 5 of them, the most active one is used primarily by children @ an agency, with about 15 computers running *all the time*. I routinely get 600k+ transfers...

But yea, to each his own.

The WRT54G also has triggering, which is a neat function, and I *really* like the ability to filter keywords directly from the router. For example, at that agency I was talking about, "myspace" is one of the words in the filter. Any attempt to access any site w/ the word "myspace" in the address bar, and you get a page-not-found error.

Oh, and you can do this with the WRT54G series..:

How easy are they to get working with bitcomet?

Well, I always say things are "Easy", because for me, they usually are. My girlfriend would tell you that I don't understand "easy."

Anyway--they're no more or less difficult than any of the major brands...go to a window, enter in your forwarding info...and you're done.

I like my router in particular because it seems to be a great router for BitTorrent traffic, or it handles UPnP really well. I have a 1.5mbps connection (with like 256kbps up or something) with 3 PC's on the network. On average with the private tracher I am with I get constant down speeds between 175-185kbps and upload speeds of 20-25kbps on a torrent with a decent number of seeds. Thats why I like this router so much. I get great speeds without having to mess around with Port Forwarding. And tonight my brother,my dad, and I were all playing FEAR Multiplayer with no lag on any of our PC's. The router was able to handle all three of us for 3 hours straight without any slowdowns.

And in regardsto the crashing issues mentioned earlier. I did have that problem BUT it was with the NetGear WPN824v2 the version 1 actually died within a month on me. When i called up customer support they said they had been having many issues with the v1 routers and that the had fixed the problem and were shipping out routers that had this issue fixed. These new routers are the NetGear WPN824v2 had the router for over three months and not one crash, not 1 lost wifi connection, no problems.

Personally, I dont think there is one best router. And you deffinently(spelling) wont get a non bias response because everyone will tell you the one they had the least problems with. Some may work for some and not others though.

Doesnt expecting the unexpected make the unexpected expected and therefore mean youre expecting the expected which was the unexpected until you expected it?

I picked up a NetGear WPN824 today. I'll probably be setting it up on thursday.

Thanks everyone!

On the box does it say WPN824V2 or WPN824V2?? I ask because the V1 models were supposedly very problematic and the V2 models supposedly fixed the issues the V1 models had. If you have a V1 I would recommend returning it, and having the retailer you bought it from exchanging it for a V2 model.

It doesn't say the version on the box, so it's probably version 1

Most likely. Just to be on the safe side I would return it and request a v2 model.
