Need help desperately please!

I'm on cable, with only one PC. I was advised to use a router for security after a hacking attempt. When I connect directly through my modem, it's fine. However, with my router, my connection speed is frustratingly slow and sluggish.

I've tried many different things I've read up on, but am not a computer guru.

Any advice would be MUCH appreciated :)

look for the ip the router is giving u ex 192.168.1.100 and enter the router 192.168.1.1 select applications and gaming, dmz put ure ip click enable and save settings that should do it since probably whats happening is that the ports r blocked
