Hi, Looking for some help to solve a surplus of duff and burnt DVD's.

Over recent weeks very little has burnt correctly DVD wise. CD's fine. An old ISO file created months back DID burn successfully last week.

I've tried using IMGBurn and a log is below. I've progressed to a stage where it seems to Burn OK, stopped getting errors there. It now fails verifying via ImgBurn at "Illegal Mode for this Track"

Firmware seems up to date. DMA is correct on Device manage for Primary and secondary channels. I've checkde the media quality and whilst not a top notch name the burn rating is Good and I have had reasonable past success with it.

Any suggestions?

I would switch my drive to NTFS to accommodate files over 4GB! makes life easier!

you disk ID is AML.... very crappy media! Just because you burned before with this media doesn't mean that you will always have success with it because of the varying manufactures production quality of this brand of disk! Use Made In Japan media or Verbatim! Look on the label of the spindle or box and make sure it says MIJ! Verbatim is top notch media, only exception to the MIJ rule, and made in Taiwan/Singapore .... the only Taiwan made disks I will use! then maybe you'll have better results!

That's on the must do some day list but it's only one partition which is FAT32. A separate partition holds the files I'm burning (poorly)and it's NTFS.

Although the rating for the ones i use is good according to DVD Identifier. I don't doubt the Japanese ones are bettter and they'll be one of my next purchases but the ones I'm using do rate a bit higher than crappy.

I guess I'm feeling there is soem other system, setting, burner issue I need to address, probably in addition to the media, but can't see what else to try. Any other suggestions?

Hello.

I've never found verification to mean very much. Does the disk play back OK is the real test. The verification error could be due to the poor quality media used for the burn and a read error which might be overcome by the player.

I think you have the newest firmware for that burner. If this is a Dell system you might check there for a later firmware update. I suspect most of your problems are due to the media used.

The Disk doesn't get recognised when put into the DVD player on PC. Usually Windows fires up a box with programs to launch to play whatever is on the disk - none of that occurs, a fair bit of chuntering and flashing lights on drive but not much else.

If I go into Explore and look at the the CD Drive om some burns it carries the label I gave it, but not always and sometimes only after a long delay. On some burns, when the label is shown on Explore I can see the folders with VOB files etc. which play as VOB files.

Confusing stuff. It's as if it's buring but a bit of the jigsaw which wraps it all up and makes it a DVD is missing.

I think we are at a standstill until you get some other media to try. Media needs to be eliminated as the cause before progressing to other possibilities. It's possible something is wrong with your burner but media needs to be addressed first.

What program(s) are you using for authoring? DVD Shrink? Are you autoburning via Shrink or dumping an ISO from Shrink that you're subsequently burning with ImgBurn?

yep, that's the one. Or at least the latest one. I can play the ISO file, I can play the VOB files.

I'll swap for some better DVD's and see where that takes me. Thnaks for looking.

??Wonder if you can sell half a pack of unused DVD +R's on ebay?

@Eg1.......just want you to know about Media..... here is a media guide:
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
it's not 100% but it's a very very good indication on what's out there and what's CRAPPY! and check out your AML disks.... 4th class.... that's like below CMC MAGs Memosux! so that's a very strong meter reading on the CRAPPY SIDE! and could very well be your problem. And using better quality media will eliminate the disks as a problem and then go on from there.

Another meter reading on this subject could be the drive itself. Being that the drive burns CDs fine could be that the laser is going and can't burn DVDs! This doesn't mean that it's your drive..... check the media first and then go from there!

Hi guys, just to confirm what you really knew anyway.

Sony discs work, crap media don't.

Thanks for the advice, now to try and hassle the guys who sell the crap media, probably won't get anywhere but might feel better.
