After reading so much good comments on Verbatim DVDR I bought a 25pack Verbatim DVD-R with Super AZO(Made in Taiwan) but end up my burner can't recognise any of the blank DVDR using Nero & Dvd Identifier.

burner info: HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA-4164B with firmware 1.05
My burner has no problem with Maxell (Ritek) and HP (CMC Magnetics Corp) DVD-R. Really disappointed with the result here :(

suu- not quite familiar with your drive but might be a firmware issue ? are you using the latest firmware for your drive ? You may need to update it if not !

The Verbatim are probably DVD-R 16X. If so, your drive may not recognize them. Your drive may no longer be supported by firmware updates that might allow the discs to be recorded at 8X or 4X. In that case you should continue to use the Ritek and CMC discs you used in the past or, if you insist on Verbatim, try 8X versions. (Many people who have incompatibility problems blame the drive if the media are Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden or blame the media if they are some other brand. In your case there is no quality problem with either your drive or the discs--it is the same incompatibility problem that arises when older drives face newer, faster media.)

The verbatim DVD-R write up to 8x and that's what my drive can manage as well. The other previous brand I used also 8x disc, anyway I am going to pass it to a friend to test the media for me as I suspect they maybe bad. I am ok with other brands but hearing so much bad things about CMC I really don't know should I stay with it or not, so far they work well.

Very often the people who attack CMC have simply had drives that were not compatible with those discs. If your discs are working for you, compatibility is not an issue. Neither is quality unless the error rates increase suddenly and the discs become unreadable. This can happen either because of a poor recording with an incompatible drive (incompatibility again) or because of an instability in the disc (quality). Note that there are other web sites that do not find problems with CMC products (CMC also makes most of Verbatim's DVDs); so use your own best judgment.
