This is true; however, I believe (at least for me) that this format will not allow you to attach any sound to the file.
So, not only does this deduce the quality, but it's only motion pictures; no sound.
However, they have GREAT streaming software out there that will run for the Wii. If you go to orb.com they have the software. It's a short link, so it's easy to access on the Wii; and it's a nice stable version. They do have other software; but I personally like Orb.
It's basically an FTP program. You set it up on your computer; go to the website, log in; and there's your files, ready for streaming.
Hope you enjoy this alternative better!

@TheV - Yeah, it's because the movie player is more of just the picture viewer than a movie player. For the site I gave you, you don't need any connection between the Wii and your Computer so it is an excellent alternative.
Let me know what you think!

im sorry to say the video sucks on the wii unless you have a 4 gig or better sdcard but there is a small issue
1.the wii video converters convert most videos to 1 gig files or better
2.in order to get great quality the video would have to be exactly 4 gigs in size
so i wouldn't recommend using the video option with the wii

@tabletpc - While I agree with this; Nintendo is working to fix this issue. I would still recommend watching videos on your computer or DVD. I was simply listing an alternative if somebody should wish to stream a video on their Wii.

There's no way you can be dumb; you have a high status than I do so far :)
Also, I think it may be best if we keep the instructions public, so as others who don't know can come here and find out.

Ok, so you download the orb client:
http://www.orb.com/download/Orb20SetupUs.exe
Now just set up an account on orb. During installation, you will be asked if you have an account or if you would like to make one. Making one is simple.
After you have it installed, you will be sent an e-mail with the link to sign in to mycast:
https://mycast.orb.com/orb/html/index.html
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
So, now you see the green orb in your taskbar. You right-click that, and click on configuration. Now you can choose between the different media tabs and select what you wish to be your orb account that you can stream.
After adding the folders, the website will be automatically updated.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, just go to orb.com and click on sign in>orb 2.0 or go to https://mycast.orb.com/orb/html/index.html ON YOUR WII
Now you can surf the page and surf through your media and stream whatever you want that has been added tot he list in the configuration on your computer!
-Enjoy!
