Hi all, I just got a new router and Azureus worked great with the old one. So after configuring correctly here is what happens:
Web page access/Smtp connects over time slow to a crawl and then stop. Azureus plods on however. A poweroff of the router fixes the problem for some time, but eventually the same symtoms occur.
I went to the netgear forums:
http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php...zureus#post5425
and there does seem to be a problem with this router in regards to many connections, but nothing official from Netgear.
I have reduced the max simultaneois connects in Azurues to 50, but that did not help. Does anyone have another idea? (no, another router is not an option). Is there a better torrent client that won't do the same thing? I think I have tried them all in the past, and invested so much time in understanding all the settings, I would hate to give it up, but I need to get this router working with torrents and web pages at the same time....

Netgear is crap, I've never found one of their routers useful. When you say "configured correctly" I assume that means you setup a static IP and port forwarding? What sort of connection do you have?

Whatever happens, happens.

thanks spike for the note: My connection is a straight cable PPOPE connection to the router (no modem involved). There is a small lan behind the router, just a few PCs. Everything works great till I turn on Azureus on any one machine. Then web connectivity goes to hell.
I had a dlink before with no problems and spent what seemed like a week trying to optimize Azureus on this same broadband connection. I finally got it right. Now, with the new router configured correctly, Azurueus tuned as far as I know, it's just not working out.
I wish I had the dlink back. Router's are hard to find here, exspecially the wireless type and netgear is the only option without going to thailand for supplies.
Maybe my solution is to try another bit-torrent client, but heck, I've invested so much time into Azureus. Unless this is really a Netgear problem, I don't see a way to tell. I've read countless pages on the topic, and most proposed solutions are 1.incomprehensible, 2. insane, or 3. tried.
Well, thanks!

If you're not and if you can, connect directly to the router or was that one of the proposed solutions? If so, ignore this.

Try the actual bittorrent client, http://www.bittorrent.com/
If that doesn't work any better, it will give us an idea into the source of your problem.

Well, i tried bittottent 5.0.3 and while i really like the streamlined interface over Azureus, the results of the test are the same. I used currport to monitor the port activity and both torrent clients are doing about the same thing: once about 15-20 seed connections are made, the router stops opening web pages.
So now what? this is bugging the crap out of me.I have an ancient dlink router somewhere in a drawer i am thinking about testing next. My ISP assures me all is well with my account, and they don't have a clue either....
thanks for ur continued support...

You could try giving utorrent a shot, I don't think there is a lighter client. Or try a factory reset to put all settings back to default. It's usually a small hole on the back of your router and I use a paperclip to hold it in for 10 seconds. Be warned, though that doing so causes me to lose my internet connection and I have to install my ISP connection CD again. It is a one off modem router from my ISP, though I did read of a person that had a similar problem lately. Other than that, sounds like it's back to the D-Link. Meanwhile, keep an eye on the netgear forum, posting your problem there may help and email Netgear. I had to contact my router manufacturer to even access mine and they were very helpful.

mistycat, tried all of that, posted everywhere, and just finished testing an old dlink di-604 router, replacing the new netgear wgn824v2. what a hunk of junk that is! the old moldy dlink outperforms the netgear by a mile. the same torrent is coming down faster, i can surf web pages (albiet a bit slower when running bittorrent), and smtp and FTP work while all of this is running. i even have a us radio station playing on rtsp ports. what a joke!
so i was using the dlink as a switch in a network downstairs, i guess i will put the netgear in it's place, IF THIS TURKEY can even be used as a switch...what a shame, it sure is nice looking with that big blinking blue strobe light and all.
well, i guess we can call this one closed if the dlink runs overnight okay....
thanks....
