Maybe as you say your computer gets overheated and you need to get a program that can show you your computers temp. If its too hot maybe invest in another fan. I know whit my new build i have 3 case fans. Keeps the new pc cool as a cucumber :)

if u dnt get any error if it just simply restarts it could be a weak power supply cause most of the times when it gets hot u get an error and the blue screen of death but if it just simply restarts without errors it could be the power supply

It very well might not be a temperature issue. You should be able to tell if the computer is really overheating, because it will take some serious heat to make your computer failsafe and reboot. Take off the cover when it's running one day and check it with your hand; you'll feel the heat immediately. Sporadic reboots and shutdowns can be caused by a lot of different things, damaged Windows install, worms or rootkits (which by the way, very well might not have been detected by your anti-virus software), a bad sector on your hard drive, etc.

You say that when you leave the computer off for some time, it starts back up alright. Does that mean you've tried to turn it back on immedaitely? If so, what happened?

@Onya, Don't hijack threads. If you have a question, then post it in the appropriate forum.

@Washy- Sounds more like a heat issue with these additional details. Take a box fan or some other household fan that you can stand up and point somewhere and point it directly into your computer, running full speed when your computer is on. If this extends its uptime even more, then it's a heat issue. You'll need to take steps to correct it, such as a) upgrading your CPU fan, which would be my first step and b) You need to get heat OUT of the case, which means at least two additional fans, one blowing in and one blowing out, if not more than that. There are also other fan devices, such as directional fans that fit in a PCI slot, HDD fans, and if all else fails, liqiud cooling solutions.
Cheers

Try booting into your bios. Go to the page where you can look at hardware and you should be able to see the temperature at various places. See if your cpu temp is creeping up. If so, you may have a problem with the fan or the connection between fan and cpu.

well if buying new fans isn't cooling your system enough, seal the case and take out all the fans, then fill it with oil... oil isn't a conductor so i don't see what that wouldn't work... plus your system would be slick :p

Hey washy. washy your computer out hahaha. okay bad joke. If you think it is a heat problem I would take the side panel off get a can of compressed air and make sure everything is dust free dust is a great insulator. how long have you had this computer is it knew like XMAS or has it been stable for a while now acting up.
First like borhan9 said get a program that shows temp hopefully your motherboard has the sensors for that or like rocky999 said try the bios and make sure the heatsink and fan are mounted properly. but remember with the bios the cpu is not relly being worked so it may not show it getting as hot as when you are running a O.S. and programs. I hate heat I leave my case side panel off and have 5 fans plus my cpu cooler's fan so 6 in total.
I just remembered now that it is winter you are probably running your homes heater, in the bios see what your shut down temp is then find out what safe temps are on your CPU then adjust accordingly in the bios my father in law has that problem but his was in the summer we live in the desert. good luck

Don't you hate it When people say, "It's always in the last place you look". What the HELL??? Of course it
is. Why the HELL would you keep looking for it after you've already found it?
Who the HELL are these people?
