got a phillips dvdr3380 for christmas will not accept DVD+RW,from tesco's any suggestions before i take it back

Hi, I don't know if this will be of help, but I checked the manual for the easiest fix that might help. Is the speed of the DVD+RW discs that you are using either 2.4x or 4x?
I even have issues with using the same speed dvds' from different manufacturers with my recorder/player..
